Always losing connection

Hi All,

I had the Wnr2000 before, and I was very happy with it, but then the lightening killed everything (computer, router and modem).

Now I purchased WNR3500L, but I have a problem to stay connected to the Internet both wired and wireless through the router. I have the original software on the router, and I am not planning to change it.

I read a lot in the lost couple days to find the solution, but most of the threads are related to the other two software.

So, I am online about 10 minutes then everything goes to Local connection, I have to turn off the router, wait a little bit then turn it back and then I have Internet again for about 10 minutes. When I am on directly wired through the modem, I don't lose connection. I don't have to use special IP address, the modem gets it automatically.

I remember I had a same problem with my WNR2000, but I don’t know how I fixed it ( oooppps..). Maybe the firewall messed up something?  My firewall is on right now (Vista – Network Location: Public), and I have AVG 9.0 on my computer.

Any thoughts?  Anything would be appreciated….I am getting frustrated, and I don’t know what to do…

:-(  Thanks,

Magnes24

Did you check and make sure you are running the latest Netgear factory firmware?

Also is this wireless or are you connected from your computer to the router wired?

Hi,

Hi,

yes I checked for new firmware, but no new one is available, mine is : V1.0.2.50_31.1.25NA.

I am connected to the router wired and I have wireless devices too, but when I lose connection, then nothing is working...
There is some plug-in which causes this kind of problem, but I don't remember how I fixed it.... Thanks

I had the same issue with the WNR3500L. Netgear support tried to help but never solved it. I tried several things with no luck. You could lower your MTU size or select "allow respond to ping from internet port" in the WAN setup. I was going to try the second solution next but gave up and ended up buying a new router.

I use a WNDR3700 as my gateway router and have had zero problems with it. I use the WNR3500L only as an access point/switch and it works fine for that.

That's good to know,

That's good to know, johnnydee.

Tathagata, disable UPnP by going to Advanced->UPnP. Uncheck "turn on UPnP".

Is something broken with 3500 UPnP?

Thanks

I disabled the UPnP and still

I disabled the UPnP and still had the same problem, so I am now using dd-wrt, so I am testing this software and we'll see if that would solve the problem.
If not, than it has to be a hardware issue...

hey

hey
You are coming across intermittent connection.
Try to update the firmware of the router.
Change the mtu size of the router.
it might helps.

Hi I tried all of it, and

Hi I tried all of it, and wasn't helping. No I am using the other software, and still I'm having problems...so9 maybe it is the hardware after all....I just don't know what to do with it...there is one year warranty on it, but if they give me another one - usually refurbished - that could be bad too....

Ok, my Brother-in-law SOLVED

Ok, my Brother-in-law SOLVED my problem!!!!!!
I was really-really frustrated, so I was trying to make a choice to either threw the router to the wall or to the ground....:-(

But he said we should try this, and we did:

As I never had to login to my account my IP and DNS setting was to set to automatic, so we had to change that. Try it it worked for me so far it's working, no dropped connection at all today.

Put your computer to direct connection,go View Status of Local Area Connection, click General, which opens up the Network Connection Status. Write down the number for IP DNS Servers.

Now plug back your wire to the router. On your computer go to Manage network connection, right click to you Local Area Connection, click Properties, click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP), click Properties, change to "Use the following DNS server addresses", enter you DNS Server numbers.

I also entered these number into the router, and made the same changes on the other laptops which are connect through the wireless connection.

So as I said it is working right now without dropping the connection.

Let me know if it's work or not!!
