So is there any way to copy a file to the ftp server (usb hard drive) from the internet (remote location), or can we just access (see) them? Thanks in advance for any help.

@Kong:

@Kong:

This may strictly be a dd-wrt issue, but after I created a virtual wireless interface, my client bridge for my PS3 was broken and would not work.

When I removed the virtual interface on the wnr3500l to get the bridge working again, I could no longer access the web gui (even after clearing cache or using a different browser). I had to reset it.

Otherwise, this firmware is outstanding!

Yes this is possible, you just need to activate the ftp server and add a iptable rule to open up the ftp port from wan side, see:

Thank you Kong for your reply

Thank you Kong for your reply...works great! Now I am searching for info on how to improve write speeds...I take it NTFS is NOT the way to go...

On stock firmware I get write

On stock firmware I get write speeds on NTFS of 6-7 MB/s. On dd-wrt (Kong) I got 2-2.5 MB/s.

I would like to try your new

I would like to try your new firmware. As you might know I have used Tomato in the past and it's always been stable and no complaints. But now I've got something that I don't see in the Tomato firmware and wanted to know if it's available in your firmware. Or maybe it's not even possible (or it's already possible but I've overlooked it).
I have an external harddrive attached to the 3500L and and also use it for letting some people access it from the outside.
No problem setting up a user and letting him access the drive (with that account). Now I want to setup a 2nd account and have that account only access another folder on that disc.
So user A can only access folder A and user B only access folder B.
Is that possible?

I really appreciate hard work

I really appreciate hard work of Kong.
But is there any centralized place where i can find a-to-b comparison builds of Kong and dd-wrt builds by Eko or BrainSlayer?
Are changes from description the only difference?
And it would be just wonderful to have a place where full history of Kong builds are.
I've bought wnr3500l couple of days ago and trying to find the most comfortable firmware for my needs.
Don't see a lot of information on dd-wrt forums.
Does it make sense to test their new builds? Do they work OK on wnr3500l by default? Or it's better just to wait for the next Kong's build?
It takes a lot of time to read all threads about every build to find out all changes.
I'm new to this, point me to a right place if i missed it, please.

Think I might have broke my router

I tried to upgrade to the new version, after uploading the .bin via the web interface, the router said waiting 299 seconds then once it was done it rebooted. After the reboot the power light was stuck on amber and I was not able to connect, after waiting 10 min I pushed the reboot button on the back. When it came back on the light was green for 2 seconds then went amber again, and never went green.
I have tried the 30/30/30 and tried to telnet to it, both with no success.
Any ideas ?
Thanks for any help

Which version did you use,

Which version did you use, dlna or vpn?
Where did you get it from, direct link or myopenrouter download link?
What router did you put it on?

For the wnr3500l there is this fairly easy method:

Hi kong

Hi kong

I used the dlna from the top of this page.
Originally had your last version.
I have a WNR3500L

I might have caused the problem by not waiting long enough after a reboot to try installing the new version. Guess I was in a hurry and just waited for internet and USB drive access to be restored before uploading the .bin. I also used Firefox instead of IE to upload, don't know if that makes a difference.

Hi Kong,

Hi Kong,
I had exactly the same issue a couple of weeks ago with this file: dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin. Maybe the problem was that I did not reset the settings to factory defaults after upgrading? But even after doing this (using the reset button) the rooter failed to boot.

I also have the WNR3500L and unfortunately I do not remember which link I used to download the file.
I tried many ways to debrick the router including tftp during boot. I finally managed to debrick it using the method described by you (pin short).
I did not try to install the dlna firmware any more, although I am quite interested in it.
I already use minidlna - I compile it directly on the router, but have the following problem: When I try to play a HD video file that is stored on my laptop (connected via wireless) to my TV (connected via cable) the file does not play smoothly. After that I discovered that the transfer rate from Wireless to my router is only below 1MB/s (although transfer to the internet goes to the ISP limit of 30Mbps). I thought that your modded firmware might give me faster wireless transfer rate (to the router)?

Does this support media

Does this support media servers? Or is it like ddwrt that it isn't supported

Hi Nitram,

Hi Nitram,

the maximum wireless speeds with this build are around 6,5MB/s , for that you have to use N client adapters that support dual stream N mode and the router has to be setup with channel 6 and 40Mhz Channel Width + WPA2 AES.

The build located on myopenrouter is always save to use, before they get uploaded they are double checked. If you have previously used other builds you should do a full reset prior to flashing, due to the size of my builds it takes fairly long until flashing completes. Therefore one should wait at least 5min for the router to come up again.

@t2noob, yes this build includes a media server

I tried flashing this last

I tried flashing this last night just by going to the tab in ddwrt and upgrading, This ended up giving me a bricked router. Can someone tell me how I need to flash this?
Do i need to have stock and then flash to this?
wnr3500L
Please and Thank You.
Edit: yeah I tried it from stock and again i have a brick on my desk.
so im guessing something is up with this file.

Hi t2noob,

Hi t2noob,

since I just finished two new builds you should try one of these, I have flashed both on my wnr3500l and created the checksums so you can be 100% sure, that they are working:

dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-dlna-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin

Checksum: 609bb815863f233f3634bbaf4928fcb3

dd-wrt-usb-ftp-samba3-vpn-O2-v24-K26-broadcom.bin

Checksum: 9e4c9be45c6b790e0dad637179e645f7

These are based on dd-wrt rev 15510.

These builds add VLAN GUI support.

I got it working with the pin reset, but it took some time. When I just followed the instructions it did not work the router did not respond to pings. I tried all different combination of unplugging power, and turning it off and shorting the pins, like holding the short on the pins as I reset the router. I got desperate and shorted out all of the different pins by running the piece of metal down both sides of the chip, that finally got it responding to pings.

Dear Kong!

Dear Kong!

I'm a soulful amateur in linux and dd-wrt, so sorry for a - maybe - stupid questions.

My first question: can i use your modified firmware on any dd-wrt capable router? I have Asus wl500gp v2. I plan to share the just downloaded contents through dlna. I have a samsung tv wich won't cooperate with ushare.
Some people adviced me to use minidlna as server.
Second question: Is it possible to use other optware packages with your firmware (like midnight commander transmission, etc)

Your answer would be very appritiated.

Best regards: Sz.

I attached a USB external

I attached a USB external hard drive, installed optware, and started automount service.

The router mounted all partitions under /tmp/ and all mounted partitions are writable, but after a while, a couple of hours, the partitions became readonly.

Any idea?

Dear, Kong!

Dear, Kong!
Just now i've update to your mode, so far all is ok, except my udpxy can't startup with error
"dpxy: can't resolve symbol '__uClibc_start_main'"

Please, compile latest source of udpxy http://sourceforge.net/projects/udpxy/ staticaly linked.

This udp proxy allow to proxy UDP streams (usually used for IPTV udp multicasts) into http stream, greatly improves IPTV watching via wifi.

I can't complie sources directly on my netgear 3500L, and actually i'm not a coder.
Thanks in advance.

I suppose, everyone will appriciate include this code in your "Kong mod" some day.

Thank you Kong for all your

Thank you Kong for all your great work...all the time you've put in.

Does anyone know...
It's boggling my mind if I can access ftp from wan if the router is "chained", I have a hard-wired router that does all the DHCP, the dd-wrt router with the hard drive is basically a switch. Well, that's exactly what it is. So, did I lose being able to forward any ports to it by doing that? If so is there any way to accomplish....what I'm trying to do is use my hard -wired router because it is dual-wan, also use the dd-wrt because it has usb. Maybe I'm thinking if it doesn't work the way I have it I can just reset the dd-wrt router and use it as DHCP also just with a different range and same subnet...right?
Any ideas?

Got it figured out, was just in the mounting of the drive I think. everything seems ok for now.

Wow, Thanks again to all who contribute.
