EOL?

I heard that the WNDR3800 N600 is going to be EOL soon (within the next few weeks and no direct replacement).  Is that true?  I don't think it's even 2 years old yet.

Have been working on a project that right for a couple months in spare time now that requires it and plan to open it to beta in a few months.  It's built on Openwrt, (has some specific config requirements and a few extra packages), so if the rumor is true at least it shouldn't be too hard to move to a different platform, but the RAM requirements are higher than your typical router.

Can someone cofirm or deny it's going EOL?  If it is going EOL (sad) can someone recommend something similar, preferablly with a expected much longer life cycle?  (and at least 128mb of RAM, at least 16mb of Flash, openwrt support, and <$150 street price)

Hi John,

Hi John,

I'm new here and not an expert on Openwrt but I've had a lot of success with ASUS RT-N16. I'm thinking about trying the RT-N66U for my next project. I have used the WNDR3800 on a few projects (DD-WRT) and I had some reliability problems with it so I went with something else. I tried the WNDR4500 but wasn't able to flash it because it wasn't compatible. I was looking at the reviews for WNDR3800 and it doesn't look real good so Netgear is probably looking to push that one under the rug.

Spec wise, looks good, but

Spec wise, looks good, but doesn't appear to be supported by open-wrt (at least not yet). http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-n16 and I am getting a timeout trying to access their support ticket tracking the issue, so not sure how close it is to being supported. That said, price and features sound like it might be a good fit if/once it is compatible with open-wrt.

Supposedly the latest firmware helps the stability issue with the wndr3800. Haven't ever experienced any problems myself under openwrt on the wndr3800.

office depot - Also out of

Office max - They actually have some! Have a few on order to get by...
Amazon - Price continues to rise, now 218.
Ebay has some, but all one at a time...

Would like to hear if officially EOL or just waiting for another production run.

I hope the RT-N66U will be supported by openwrt by the time the supply of WNDR3800 run out.

Looks like the 4300/3700v4 are sort of a feature merge of the 3800 and the 4000.

Unfortunately like the ASUS

Unfortunately like the ASUS RT-N16, the WNDR4300 doesn't appear to be compatible with the standard Opwnwrt yet. The 3700v4 appears to be closer to being supported, but still listed as WIP on openwrt.

The Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H works with 32mb flash and 128mb RAM.
