Recommended TX rate for outdoor antenna

Hi everyone

I have 2 questions

1.Can anyone tell me what is the recommended TX rate for outdoor antenna on an indoor router

http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=2474&model=TL-ANT2415D

I plan to connect the TPlink-TL-ANT2415D antenna on an ASUS RT-N16 running r22000.

If anyone has a better product/products or recommendations please post.

2. What is the difference between the K26 and the K3-AC, I have looked at the sizes, and I have seen the K3-AC has a size of 17 MB. Does this mean it has more features? If so what are they in comparison with the K26

What are you trying to do?

What are you trying to do?
How far?
Type of devices/receiver?

Size of the file doesn't always mean more features.

As for the Kernel, if both are supported... I would try them out for at least 2 days. Watch some videos, stream music and run internet speed tests... if you can run a network stress test, that would work too.

I have the worst luck,

I have the worst luck, lightning hit my antenna, it exploded, caught a fire and fried the Router (ASUS RTn16), fried all other Ethernet connected devices. I had bought a spear antenna

I have yet to go and replace it but I have bought the http://www.tp-link.us/products/details/?categoryid=2475&model=TL-ANT24SP

I now have the Linksys E900 running Tomato Shibby

I am going to try full strength TX rate as soon as I replace it (400)

Wow, you are luck the

Wow, you are luck the building is still standing. Unfortunately, home grade networking equipment doesn't utilize the ground pole and therefore the lighting is forced to ground via every way possible including connected equipment.

I don't work on outdoor antennas but surge protectors are a good idea. I would put them outside with outdoor rated (tinned copper) wire... probably 6-awg at a minimum and keep it outside to the buildings grounding rods.

It's been a few years since my class on radios but full strength never seems to hurt, besides killing the equipment faster. Since most routers have USB ports now, I keep netbook cooling fans under everything my equipment. Cooler temperatures hopefully means the equipment will last longer and perform better.

Do you specifically need the omnidirectional antenna? The larger antenna doesn't really mean further range, the incoming transmission will work because it is more sensitive but that also means the same amount of power is spread across a larger area.

Here is a website that has various types of equipment (http://www.l-com.com/) i've never ordered anything but they have a large catalog of parts.

Anyone with similar parts

Anyone with similar parts please note there is a authentication problem with tomato Shibby firmware on Linksys E900 and the following parts.

I currently own 2 of each and have had major problems when trying to use WAP2 personal. (If I disable all security it works.)
I switched to DD-WRT mini and it worked with no problems on WAP2 personal. I have noticed every time I log into the DD-WRT GUI of the Linksys E900 the router may freeze after a while or if I click on reboot the router will freeze. (Tested on brianslyer and standard mini DDWRT) same problem. Not sure but I think itâ??s may have something to do with the Linksys E900 CPU speed and my specific scenario.
I am thinking about connecting the outdoor antenna to an outdoor AP, the only problem with that is I cannot control the TX rates because they are not compatible with DD-WRT.

I am now testing DD-WRT Kong on a Linksys 1550 with a (TX rate of 250)

I hate it when that happens..

I hate it when that happens...

Are you just using the outdoor APs setup as nodes or does one function as an AP?

That might be worth a try and see. It looks like they have the ability to tweak the timeout settings... maybe thats what they say instead of TX rate? I know they are different but maybe the manufacturer is trying to dumb things down.

If you think the router might be overworked, it definitely wouldn't hurt to just make it the DHCP/ internet server with the wifi disabled and run a separate AP to run the wifi.

How many devices total are you working with?

as nodes connected to my neighbors houses. I am trying to setup an Intranet on my neighborhood.

So its Router(DD-WRT) with outdoor antenna giving Static DHCP, QOS, the TX rate is bumped up. The outdoor nodes connecting to the router, all nodes have line of site to the outdoor antenna.

I have now changed the setup. The Linksys E1550(KingKong) had similar problems to the E900> the CPU is the same speed. not sure if that's the problem.

I am now using a
1. D-link Dir-615 running Brainslayer (Processor Speed @400 Mhz)& modded with heat sinks as the master router. TX rate @ 150 (this is not the full TX rate)
2. 2 Tplink nodes and 2 Nexxt nodes(Stock firmware)
3. I have run out of outdoor equipment and an using one of the Linksys E900 as  a client node with1 of each of the following

NOTE the newest Brianslayer brodcom K26, the wireless does not work
(ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2013/07-24-2013-r2211...)
I had to revert to an older version to get the wireless to work
My reason for wanting to use the newest version is the QOS settings user bandwidth, this option is not there in the older versions. But using it as a node I dont need to to use QOS, The D-link DIR 615 is handling that.

This morning my neighbors have said everything is working OK with no drops or slow speeds from you tube, I have used QOS and access restrictions to throttle their torrent downloads so as to allow net surfing to go smoothly.

I think my problem is the routers I am using, they are just to slow
I am now researching BulletM2HP
http://www.ubnt.com/airmax#bulletm
this seems to have the power I need
I am now thinking about buying a Nighthawk ac1900 smart WiFi router R7000
Currently I am using a

from the ISP modem, the ISP modem also has wireless, so its like the switch is just an extension of the ISP Cable modem. this then goes to the Dlink Dir 615 and so forth.

Update to this post

Update to this post
I have had to disable the ping watchdog features on the nodes. I have 3 of The Nexxt outdoor APs and 1 linksys E900.
All running fine with the exception of 1
Node 2 does not have a router connected to the end of it.

(((((D-link-615 wireless)--going to nodes--going to (Wired Router(Stock firmware)-going to -(Wired and wireless devices).)))

I have noticed that node 2 some times does not show up on my device list. I can see its connection rate on the other DDWRT page but not the IP address. The user has complained once about no access to the network. He has the node jacked directly into his computer.

I suspect if the computer is off for a certain time the node has no activity and drops off the network.
The other 2 nodes have routers connected and therefore will have some small activity and will keep the IP active.

Any thoughts anyone?
