Stock & DDWRT Differences

I just picked up my R7000, and wanted to know if there were any glaring differences between the stock and DDWRT firmwares. My previous router was the WRT54GL, so it was a no brainer for me to put Tomato/DDWRT. I'm just trying to make an informed decision as to whether or not to put DDWRT on the R7000 on it or not.

As a random question, when I had my WRT54GL, I had issues where my PING would skyrocket if I attempted to transfer files from one computer to another. I've attempted it on the R7000, and it seems to not occur, but I could be wrong. In any case, I thought someone may be able to answer it too.
