Tomato by Shibby v 121 is available for r7000

The link to the firmware is at http://tomato.groov.pl/download/K26ARM/121/tomato-R7000-ARM--121-AIO-64K...

Follow the instructions at http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/56537/Tomato-by-Shibby-for-NETGEAR-... but use the firmware file above if you want.  I followed the video at http://tomato.groov.pl/?p=614 exactly and everything flashed smoothly.

----

It seems to be working ok for me, but I cannot connect to the 5GHz network while any encryption is enabled WEP/WPA/WPA2 with AES or TKIP.  It works great without any encryption.  The 2GHz network doesn't have any problem but the 5GHz has the same problem on multiple devices.  It tries logging in and then won't connect.

If anyone else tries it out, let me know if your 5GHz works with security enabled or if there is some setting you needed to make it work.  The internet forums all recommend turning Afterburner off in advanced--but it's already off, so that's not helping.  :-/

I'm using WPA2 Personal AES.

I'm using WPA2 Personal AES. My macbook pro and iphone both connect to the 5ghz radio and the both work without issue. I don't think I did anything special w/ the settings; mostly default. I'm not sure if I want to switch back to Kong though because my connection might be a little less stable. (NFS share)

So in your opion the Tomato

So in your opion the Tomato firmware is slighter better. I been thinking about switching because I can't get DLNA to work correctly on dd-wrt

Tomato, especially Shibby's

Tomato, especially Shibby's certainly has more features. Unfortunately, the wifi is not as stable, but my experience was not as bad as Skyler's.

everything on dd-wrt for

everything on dd-wrt for works fine however the DLNA part doesn't.
I had tomato on my older router and DLNA was great.

I have been using Shibby's

I have been using Shibby's Tomato on my WNR3500Lv2 for some time, with great success.

I decided to try it on my R7000, this 1.21 release is the first I've tried on this router.

Problems:

- the ping issue is still there, and in my case would seem serious: if I ping the router it varies wildly, even over 500ms. It also varies greatly using speedtest.net: on any other router I get a stable 15ms ping, but with 1.21 on R7000 i'm getting at lest 30ms, up to 50ms.

- I'm using a PPPoE connection, running a Telecom Italia VDSL 30/3 connection, Telecom supplied router running in bridged mode. On the WNR3500Lv2 using Shibby's 1.21 Tomato no problem at all... on the R7000, if I reboot the router it will NOT re-establish a connection on PPPoE, and it also seems to mess up the LAN connection, even if I am using a static address on my main PC.

For the second reason I had to go back to the WNR3500Lv2, but I would like to do more testing this weekend on the R7000.
Any ideas what I can do / test to get the connection to my VDSL bridge working correctly after a reboot of the R7000? Any suggestions on the ping issues?

Anyway, a BIG shout-out to Shibby and the other Tomato developers for all the hard work, I have NO IDEA how you find the time for this!! Very much appreciated.

DLNA also works great on dd-wrt but you have to press the right buttons. See:

A quick update on my problem

A quick update on my problem with my 5GHz radio not working with encryption. I restored the default configuration again (thorough NVRAM erase) and then shut down the router and unplugged it for a while. Then I went back in and reconfigured all my settings after starting it again.

The 5GHz is working and my clients connect to it great after that. I'd done this all before. I guess it just needed to be done again. :-)

Maybe that will help someone else.

Skyler, how is connection

Skyler, how is connection stability? I am about to try Tomato on my R7000, however, I am still afraid that I may spend too much time trying to roll things back.

I had issues (with wifi), so

I had issues (with wifi), so I rolled back to Kong's DD-WRT.

Hi Vlad,

Hi Vlad,

Sorry, I hadn't checked the forum for a while. My connection stability has been mostly decent aside from my old Nexus 7 tablet (2.4 GHz only). I notice it disconnecting on it occasionally.

Overall it's been usable enough that I didn't feel like I needed to go back to stock.

I think I've also noticed the erratic ping response time someone else mentioned above, maybe not as extreme as 500ms, though.

Everything still works well enough for watching HD videos on Netflix (through wired connection) and web browsing, etc, so I had no big reason to roll back. Maybe the response latency problems would be a problem for a network gamer or something, but hasn't cause me a problem.

I did notice a USB 3.0 hard drive connected to it (by the front port) was only transferring at about 250KB per second, which seemed rather ridiculously slow for USB 3. (on a computer connected by gigabit eithernet).

So . . . maybe that helps.

I've had trouble getting

I've had trouble getting reliable performance with a portable hard drive and I fear the faster OEM firmware since it's been said that it is known to corrupt NTFS.

Has anyone tested Shibby's Tomato builds compared to Kong's DD-WRT builds for USB 3.0 NAS? I'm curious about NTFS/FAT32 NAS performance over USB 3.0. Both builds seem to work great otherwise this is my one hang up.
