Turning on any kind of encryption prevents anything from connecting to it.
It didn't used to be like this. I think the neighbors added something that's
jamming wifi a few weeks ago.
When I first installed the R7000, it was blazing fast compared to the
Asus RT16 it replaced which was slugging because it was probably
getting jammed for the past 9 months :-(
Tried renaming SSID names, tried using different WIFI channels for
2.4 and 5GHz. Tried using only 5GHz. Used wifi analyzer to avoid choosing
channels that are busy. Tried shutting off any devices next to the router.
Tried moving the router w/ a long ethernet cable. Tried TKIP and AES
encryption. Nothing works and I'm baffled. Usually can set these things
up blindfolded, but no luck at all this time :-P
So I've resorted to a hidden SSID w/ no encryption, but it only accept MAC addresses for my devices. This is suboptimal obviously. Anyone ever have this problem or have pointers to what this phenomenon is called so I can Google for it?
You did not state what version of the firnware you are running. Would be helpful.
My suggestion would be to reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure. Do just basics to get wireless configured and test. Then you can add anything else and retest.
I might even reload the firmware before the reconfigure. might also want to install latest firmware if you have not already.

Installed the 2/26/14 Kong DDWRT build.
Then installed the latest 1.04 firmware off Netgear's site after DDWRT didn't work.
Only time it connects reliably is when it's initially ddwrt. Reset to factory defaults and configured from scratch lots of times by now.
I'm fairly experienced w/ network gear setup...did some sysadmin stuff professionally for a while. So this isn't a noob thing. Just something I haven't run into before :-(
Sorry I do not have any ideas then. Have never had that issue nor have I read of it happening before.
If new router I would be tempted to return and get another, especially since the Netgear firmware doesn't work either.

BTW, if you tell Netgear you used 3rd party firmware, they void your warranty :-P
