Well this is the second R7000 that I've owned. The first one as I put in a nother thread, was bricked after perfroming the latest update to the stock netgear firmware. I still have not been able to recover that unit.
I just bought a new (sealed) R7000 off ebay. And since the stock firmware bricked my first R7000, I am planning on re-programming this new one with one of the open source firmware versions.
I believe that I'll go with the latest Kong build - DD-WRT Kong Mod (10-26-15) for NETGEAR R7000
But I've seen a lot of different "instructions" on how to flash from original stock firmware to DD-WRT-Kong.
And I've also seen a lot of conflicting info what had to be done first, or whatever.
Then others saying that you don't have to do any of that anymore, just install and you're done.
So I thought I would just make a post and ask:
What is the current correct steps to grom from Stock firmware to the latest DD-WRT Kong? Or other?
Thanks
..."grom"....
you guys really need to add an edit button to the forums...
Hi, I just bought a R7000 and want to flash it with the dd-wrt firmware too, but as you said the manuals looks quite old. Do you finally manage to do it?f
You might want to start with the latest release of Kongd DD-WRT here.
Note: All KONG releases are BETA, so I've been told.
Been running this release with no problems.
I flashed the R7000 router, overwritng the original Netgear BIOS.
I then logged into the router 192.168.1.1 with my login credentials.
Administration > Firmware upgrade
"After flashing, reset to" set to "Reset to default settings"
"Please select a file to upgrade" left click the "Browse" button and pick the .chk file that was downloaded.
Left-click the "Upgrade" button.
It took several minutes before internet activity restarted.
I then logged into the router 192.168.1.1 and added my login credentials.
Administration > Factory Defaults
Tto the right of "Restore Factory Defaults" left-click "Yes", and then left-click "Apply settings".
It took several minutes before internet activity restarted.
I then logged into the router 192.168.1.1 and added my login credentials.
Then I started adding my personal configuration options.
Hope this helps...
