Help! How do I configure WAN with my static IP from ISP

Using a modem in Bridge Mode how do I configure the WAN to use my ISP supplied static IP?

Normally the modem would have the static IP entered in its configuration but to use with DD-WRT the modem needs to be in Bridge Mode and the DD-WRT WAN would be configured in PPPoE with the supplied ISP username and password.

Your ideas would be ideal!

Hi Captain,

Hi Captain,

Sice you have PPPOE connection type from ISP, I believe you won't able to assign a static Ip under internet setup for the Netgear router because the server authenticates the Username/password provided by your ISP and will assign you a Ipaddress. But for the same if you have DHCP connection from ISP than You can .

VJ

Hi VJ

Hi VJ

That is interesting. Are you suggesting that Bridge Mode is not a standard function of any broadband connection to allow a router (in this case DD-WRT) to operate as the modem?

Hi,

Hi,

I'm not sure where you're located, but here in Holland I have a cable modem in bridge mode with my R8000 behind it. I put my cable modem in bridge mode, and put the R8000 WAN IF on DHCP. I then got an WAN IP address. I then configured those automatically received settings static on the WAN IF.

If your ISP doesnt do DHCP if your modem is in bridge mode, you should contact your ISP and ask them for the correct TCP/IP settings. If you have a fibre connection it should be somewhat similair. If you have ADSL it's different, and usually you have to provide a username and password (besides some other adsl specific settings).

Good luck, but you should be able to get it working.
