WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!

I have 2 R6250 routers.  One had the 2.4GHz wireless completely die.  I figured it was damaged and would need replaced.  My second router as an AP had a working 2.4 wireless but wasn't as strong as it should be.  I had Shibby's firmware on it for the longest time with zero issues.  Then last night I noticed 2.4 was dead.  I checked the AP and 2.4 worked but was not as strong as it should be.  I tried Advanced Tomato's latest version after reading a post from someone with the same problem, but ended up with the same results.  So this morning I reinstalled the one router with the dead 2.4 back to NETGEAR Genie.  The 2.4 came wasn't dead and broadcasting a very strong signal, with Genie!  I cringed.....

Can anyone shed some light as to what happed with Tomato?

Firmware I had loaded: Shibby's tomato-R6250-ARM--134-AIO-64K.  Then I tried Advanced Tomato version tomato-R6250-AT-ARM-3.1-134-AIO-64K.  2.4GHz died with both version.

Still problems with WiFi?

Last fall I tried Tomato and DD-WRT on my 6250 and had similar problems as the previous poster; the WiFi was flakey and 2.4 Ghz died after a few days.  I resintalled Genie and everything has worked great.

I was going to give the March release a try, but it looks like there are still problems lurking.

Yep, the latest release doesn't like to play friendly with this router.  I miss Tomato but with Genie this router works great.

It seems like DD-WRT Kong mod

It seems like DD-WRT Kong mod was the answer.  Installed it this morning on my 2 R6250 routers and the 2.4 signal is very stable and test speeds are where they should be.  Glad to get rid of that Netgear Genie.

Hey there, i just tried the

Hey there, i just tried the latest tomato firmware from 0412, but the wifi issues are still there. Now i want to try DD-WRT Kong, but i can't find any tutorials for this specific model.

Can you tell me how you flashed it exactly and maybe help me to figure out how to flash back genie if something goes wrong? I want to have a backup plan. Thank you!

To play it safe you should

Download the back to OFW for the R6250. http://tomato.groov.pl/download/K26ARM/Netgear%20R-series%20back%20to%20...

To play it safe you should revert back to Netgear firmware and make sure it's updated to the lastest version.  Then reset the router to factory settings.

Video to go from Tomato to Netgear Genie.   http://tomato.groov.pl/?p=616  It works as long as you follow the instructions to the letter.

It will help to have an open cmd window running a constant ping to the router to know when it comes back from a reboot.  You can brick your router if you attempt to log in too early.  If you don't know, the command is "ping -t 192.168.1.1", or whatever your routers IP is and without the quotes.

Here, https://youtu.be/8TYVgKw3kJU, is a video to go from Netgear to DD-WRT.  I did not use the files in the video, I used Kong's file located at http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-kong-mod-netgear-r6250-3-30-....

Process went super smoot and my two R6250 routers have been performing flawlessly ever since.

UPDATE....  11 days after

UPDATE....  11 days after installing DD-WRT Kong Mod both of my R6250 routers are still performing as they should be.  2.4 is still broadcasting with no lost connections.  Recently updated our internet to 200 Mbps down/15 Mbps up and have 7 devices connected at all times and when my two boys are here there are 11 connected.  No slow downs or other issues.

Definitely happy with my decision to go from Tomato to DD-WRT

Installed 136 today and set

Installed 136 today and set it up as AP, then the 2.4Ghz interface is down even it is enabled.

Every was reset to default before and after the upgrade. Nothing helped. What did I do wrong?

Oh well, I should try DD-WRT.

2.4 is broken in Tomato, all

2.4 is broken in Tomato, all versions.  Install DD-WRT Kong mod and you will be very happy with the results.  I am running Kong Mod on my 2 R6250's and my WNR3500L for my Roku and Playstation.  2.4 has not dropped yet.

Yes I have.  I went as far as 129, same thing.  Worked at first then slowly died off.  GUI was saying that 2.4 was working but none of our devices could see the signal.

I honestly don't know if it

I honestly don't know if it has spindown or not as I don't use a HHD on my router.  I have 6TB in my computer so no need.

Hi Mastec, I've had similar

Hi Mastec, I've had similar issues with flaky signal and outages on my 2 r6250's.  I've tried Kong and advanced tomato.  What version of dd-wrt Kong have you been running stable on?   Thanks in advance!
