I purchased a new R6700 router from Amazon.com and when I try to flash I ran into the issue that it wanted the firmware to be in img instead of a chk file. I looked at some of the other v2 router firmware files from Kong and found that indeed for the R7500V2 it is an img file. I have not been able to put dd-wrt onto this router and decided to return it.

I am (currently) not aware of a working DD-WRT build for the R6700v2.
We do provide Kong's build for the R6700 in the Downloads section, but that may brick your R6700v2.
Usually, .IMG files are used to flash from one DD-WRT version to a different DD-WRT version (in other words, DD-WRT is already on the router) and the majority of Kong's builds work this way if you are upgrading from one Kong version to another.
.CHK files are used, typically, to flash a stock NETGEAR router to DD-WRT or another firmware.
The R7500v1, R7500v1, R7500v2 specifically are different due to the chipset :)
Hi there, I have the same problem too. I have a R6700v2 and the stock UI asks for a .img file instead of .chk file. Is there any plans to support R6700v2? I think the v2 uses the same chips as V1.
Bump. Apparently I'm in the same boat. Just bought what appears to be an R6700v2 from Amazon and it's asking for a *.img file. Any tips? Or should I just return this?
I just bought this too. Do we know if there is a difference in hardware between the the R6700 vs r6700v2?
I was able to telnet into my r6700v2 router and attempted to burnboardid it into a R7000, but was unsuccesful. All I got was " /bin/sh: burnboardid: not found". It was worth a shot.
How were you able to telnet in your r600v2 when the stock firmware doesn't have a running telnet service?
Hi all,
Same here, just recieve today my new router and I was planinig to dd-wrt - it but no good!
I am on the same boat as well. Got router recently.
Does anyone has a wireless problem with v6700v2. Wireless suddenly dropping for 2.4ghz and 5Ghz and i have to reboot the router get it working again. Wired connections looks good no problem.
Has anyone heard any news as to whether DD-WRT will get customized/tailored to the R6700 v2 ones, or did Netgear lock/remove the Open Source ability? I get random disconnects while gaming on my iPad than I have had w/my old Netgear N750 (WNDR4300) router (which almost never happens -- I don't recall ever having issues there)..
Also looking for a R6700v2 build of DD-WRT
I am in the same boat, but tomorrow I am going to purchase the R6400 and hopefully unlock it so I can use my PIA VPN service.
I'd love to add another voice to the chorus of "Please make a R6700v2 build"!
Other than the 6700v1 and 6700v3 (Broadcom chipset) the 6700v2 uses a Mediatek/Ralink chipset. So depending on the DDWRT support in general for Mediatek drivers... you might or might not see a build in the future.
Got a 6400v2 and works great !
I would also like to see a build to supporting the Netgear v6700v2!
