I'm not a smart man, please help. I'm scouring the Internet for installation guides on how to install this...i don't want to brick it of course. I've come across a lot of seemingly old information (eg. peacock thread 2009)
I couldn't find any on how-to install this dd-wrt on the R8000 on this website/forum from factory firmware
Nothing special. Just how-to install from factory to dd-wrt.
Thank you
It's easy :)
Grab the download from here:
https://www.myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-kong-mod-netgear-r8000-2017...
This is the latest Kong build for R8000 as of now, but you can see the Downloads section or Kong's site for updates.
The download should be a .CHK file, which you can flash from the factory firmware. Go to Advanced Settings, Firmware Upgrade, and select the .CHK file manually and you should be good to go.
Thanks!
i didn't see a reply so i thought the thread was dead. But it wasn't, great. And I see an article from the frontpage which seems to answer my question as well! Coincidence? :)
I will try it out this weekend, I will just have to read and make sure that if something happens I can 'debrick' it myself so have the neccesary pages offline etc.
And the steps: https://www.myopenrouter.com/article/how-flash-your-netgear-router-dd-wr...
Only thing that threw me a bit is the fact that when you do finish the flash, you'll get a network "dd-wrt" instead of your own usual network which is password protected.... Took me a while to figure out that the password you need to connect and finish the process is actually just the default one that came with your router (duh), which is on the sticker on the bottom. For the rest the steps are quite clear. Good luck!
