Hi. I'm new here and trying to flash DD-WRT to my R8000.
I have followed all the instruction and have already updated the R8000 to the latest stock fw (V1.0.3.54_1.1.37)
I have dowloaded the newest DD-WRT from Kong Mod for NETGEAR R8000 (2017-06-11) [dd-wrt.K3_R8000.chk]
When I go to flash this is says": Warning! The firmware version you are trying to upload is older than the one you had.
Current Firmware Version | V1.0.3.54_1.1.37 |
Uploaded Version | V1.0.2.99_1.1.99 |
Should I proceed or should I find an older Netgera stock first?
Hi foaderjazz,
I see you get a pop up showing flashing a older firmware version did you checked the file size 23.5 Mb and is this the link https://www.myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-kong-mod-netgear-r8000-2017... you have downloaded the firmware ? did you try to flash it ?
If you have a stock Netgear firmware, then yes you will get this error message. Make sure you have a copy of the stock firmware stored on your computer, and if you want a backup copy of your config file. AlYou don't have to but I would restore it back to factory default.
Log into router, and go for it....make sure you don't pull power or turn it off during the flashing phase.
Worst case senerio, something happens..you don't like it...whatever..just flash it back with your copy of the stock netgear firmware..
Good Luck.
Routerup, I experienced the same issue but with a more current stock firmware version (V1.0.4.12_10.1.46). The DD-WRT file (dd-wrt.K3_R8000_110417.zip @ 24,528KB) contains dd-wrt.K3_R8000.chk @ 24,557KB. In the process of flashing the dd-wrt version, you do get an older version install. The URL provided in your response to foaderjazz offers this as the file to download. Looking at the R8000 category, this seems to be the most current version available. Just FYI.
As I saved off a copy of the Netgear Firmware (stock) and the my router's config, I can always revert to stock. Unfortunately, NordVPN recommends DD-WRT in order to connect to their servers so, rock and hard spot since stock firmaware does not support WAN VPN configuration. Thanks.
FYI - the version identified within DD-WRT is V1.0.2.99_1.1.99
