Noob questions: DD-WRT on AC1450 vs. R6300v2

I have an AC1450. They say it can be turned into a R6300 v2 with a couple of fairly simple steps. But is it necessary or important to do that? Or should it work just as well to install the DD-WRT firmware over the latest Netgear firmware for the AC1450?

Thanks for any replies.

Looks like I answered my own

Looks like I answered my own question. Kong says do not upgrade the AC1450 to R6300v2:

Yeah, I tried that back in

Yeah, I tried that back in 2014 and it did not work reliably.  When KONG released version 24045 that had been tested on an actual AC1450, it was rock solid compared to router crashes/hangs every couple of hours after I'd modified the board ID and Firmware to "make it an R6300v2" (which it clearly did not)
