Hi folks, Props to Voxel on his firmware for this router, got ssh and entware installed and its humming nicely. Got a question has anyone implemented adblocking thru a hosts file on this router? If so i'd like to read a walkthough on it. TIA ;)

Adblocking using host file IMO is not real protection. I did some AdBlocking solution using Entware and privoxy (proxy server) with AdBlock functionality.

Probably it has sense to do it again for new version of Entware.
Voxel.
yeah thanx voxel i saw that last night, the link is dead, could you repost it. tia
New version.

After installation maybe you will need to correct /opt/etc/privoxy/config It is set to allow 192.168.1.0/24
Update script is /opt/etc/privoxy/privoxy-bl-upd.pl. Could be executed periodically from telnet/ssh console to re-new DB.
Voxel.
woosh thank you Voxel will give it a try
Voxel I'll say it again, "YOU ARE THE MAN", proxy is working right out of the box. Didn't change that ip address because i dont know what to change it to. Did an update and its blocking pretty much all ads. Question: if i need to shut it off what would the command be?
LOL disregard i had a brain fart. Just dont use proxy. But i'd still like to know what to change 192.168.1.0/24 to. TIA
Good that you like it ;-)
Question: if i need to shut it off what would the command be?
Manually. Through telnet/ssh, the command is:
/opt/etc/init.d/S24privoxy stop
But i'd still like to know what to change 192.168.1.0/24 to.
I had in mind that if your router IP is not 192.168.1.1 but say 192.168.10.1 and your LAN is 192.168.10.2-192.168.10.255 then you had to change permissions allowing client of your range:
192.168.1.0/24 --> 192.168.10.0/24
Voxel.
excellent thank you. cant wait to see what future development you produce. ;)
