Uploading R7500v2-factory-to-ddwrt.img does nothing

This is my first time trying to use DD-WRT, and I'm seeing some strange behavior.  My router is brand new, and still running the stock firmware.  I've been trying to upload R7500v2-factory-to-ddwrt.img via Advanced>Admin>Firmware Update, as the first step before then flashing with ddwrt-netgear-R7500v2.bin.  But every time I do, the upload seems to hang.  I can tell when the upload is finished by monitoring the bandwidth on my laptop, and I'll wait ~10min afterward before refreshing the page to the admin console.  The stock firmware seems to be running as though nothing happened.  I've done the 30/30/30, and I've rebooted and soft-reset multiple times.

Has anyone seen this behavior before?
