R6400v2 Repeater Bridge not connecting with security

I have two Netgear r6400v2 routers in my setup, both running DD-WRT r31884 (thank you Tathagata Das!)  One is my VPN router and the second is a repeater bridge to the VPN for access in the upstairs of my house. Here is my issue: the bridge will connect with no security set but as soon as I try to add security, it will not connect. Period. I am only setting up the 5 ghz channel and the 2.4 is disabled. With no security, all is good. Connects right away and I am getting decent speed (for my crappy Comcast service anyway) but as soon as I try to add security, nata. BTW, I have the MAC of the bridge assigned an IP via DHCP in the main router. Seems to help the connection.

I have reflashed firmware, reset, rebooted, tried WEP, WPA, WPA2, WPA2 mixed and any tips I have found via DD-WRT wiki or here and many other websites and nothing makes it click. Thought I would share my experience here and I will continue to experiment and try to get this thing working. If I have success, I will report back. Maybe my next attempt will be while standing on one foot only and spinning as I hit "apply." Anyone have a black cat bone?

One other note, in AP mode, I can assign the 5 ghz channel to a specific channel (108) but as soon as I change it to Repeater Bridge mode, it goes away. It would be nice to set this in stone if there is ever another update by TG or Kong. It does seem to connect no problem with security disabled but once again, if I try to set security it seems to be searching for a channel and often gets stuck on channel 34.

There you go. If someone has had this exact experience and found a solution please let me know. Going to reset the bridge router and start from scratch again. If I have any success I will update this post to save others from many days of frustration.

I have reset and reconfigured

I have reset and reconfigured everything several times with the same result. Cannot get a bridge with any kind of security. I noticed that both of the routers have the same MAC address for the 5 ghz wl1 channel. As bizarre as it sounds, I have rebooted and reflashed one of them just to be sure and they come up the same. I was going to try to clone one of them them to a different MAC but that only seems to be an option for the wl0 channel. Anyone know of a way to change it for wl1 and do you think this is the issue?  Thanks. Pretty frustrated by now.

Update - RESOLVED.  The issue

Update - RESOLVED.  The issue was duplicate MAC addresses on the two 5 ghz channels. Wacky. I changed the MACs on one router via nvram and it started connecting right away, added WPA2 security and still connected right away. Thought I would post in case someone else runs into the same problem. Hopefully this one is put to bed.

Hello,

Hello,

Can you tell me how you got it to be an extender?  I can not find it in the tabs anywhere.

Thank you, !!!!

I can tell you this... once

I can tell you this... once you got Tathagata running you can simply flash Kong on top of it. The 6400.chk file from the desipro website works with the 6400v2 quite well. I have another post on the forum detailing it and also had another user intall it and also reported no issues.
