It appears that Netgear is switching back to a Broadcom CPU for the Netgear R6700 v3. The BCM4708C0. Does anyone know if this new version will be supported here?

Same CPU as R6400v2. I don't see why it wouldn't be supported. I would be more concerned about the wireless chipset used...
Actually, I can't make out much of a difference between the R6400v2 and the R6700v3 looking at Wikidev. Could be a matter of cheap rebranding on Netgear's part ? Hmmm
Check this out.... both routers have the same FCC ID. That looks more like a scam on Netgear's end.
