No Upgrade option in stock FW

OK so I'm stuck.  I very much want to use ANY other firmware for my Nethear R7800.  I've downloaded the VOXEL R7800-V1.0.2.53SF DL and extraced the IMG. I've disconnected it from Xfinity's connection to the wall and done the 30-30-30 reset.  After the reset, I set the default password and security questions and log in, but STILL cannot find the upgrade firmware options.  I've looked under Advanced/Administration and Advanced/Advanced Setup and there is NOTHING that mentions firmware or an upgrade.  Further, as soon as I plug it into the wall, the WebUI tells me that the firmware is updating and will not let me intervene.  It appears that Xfinity has convinced Netgear to remove me, the consumer, from the process and at no point do i get the option to manage firmware on my own.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

-Scott

You don't need to 30-30-30

You don't need to 30-30-30 reset. That doesnt' work on newer generation routers. Just use the back button for 15 seconds or with in the UI. You'll find FW updates under Advanced Tab, Admistration, FW Update should be seen under Admin. Try using a different browser and or clear your browser cache with in the browser your using then exit and re-enter the routers web page.

If you want to clear or erase the ruoter settings, you can also use the routers web page under Advanced tab/Administration/Restore/Backup.

I wish it would appear.  Under Advanced\Administration I have don't have any Firmware options.  I had read that Comcast has disabled this option and my Factory Reset does not seem to expose it...

Oh you have C7800, not a R7800. C is a cable modem and thus FW would probably not be there since this is a rented modem from your ISP? If so, you'll need to get your own modem, something different and a stand alone modem, then get you the R7800 router, THEN, you can load different FW on the R7800. As far as I know, there is no 3rd party FW for cable modems as ISP maintain and test FW on any cable modem that connects to there system.

Damn.  Exactly the case (even though I purchased my own modem).  What a waste of money...  Thanks for clearing that up...
