Asus RT-N10U save settings

I have a 2 Toastman Tomato router set up. Main router is Netgear 3500L. Secondary is Asus RT-N10U which I am using to give a pptp vpn access on a different sub-net. Its WAN port connects to LAN port on Netgear to get access to internet to make the PPTP connection.

All is working fine and I use remote admin from the main Netgear sub-net to access the Asus Tomato.

The issue I have is that if I make any changes to the Asus settings and save them then I lose the remote admin access. If I power cycle the Asus then that restores the remote admin access.

Anybody know if that is either specific to the Asus or specific to using remote admin? Is there anyway to change the settings and avoid the power cycle?

I probably could do local admin on the VPN side of the Asus but at the moment I am using that as a dedicated feed into an internet TV to give me US access.

As I still haven't resolved

As I still haven't resolved this let me ask a more direct question.

Is anybody using remote admin on a Toastman Tomato based router and can change settings successfully and continue to use remote admin OK?
