Can't go back to stock

I used the most up to date version available on the dd-wrt ftp to go from  the most up to date stock firmware to DD-WRT Now i'd like to go back to stock. When i use the web gui to go back to stock it tells me the connection failed, and then I can no longer access the webgui i have to power cycle the modem to be able access the webgui again. I tried flashing Kongs build and had the same issue, is their some step that i'm missing?
