DD-WRT is obviously one of the most popular open source firmware applications for the WGR614L - it's by far the most talked about on the community, and is available for a number of different routers.
A lot of people, though, think that the DD-WRT project is starting to give in to the same "temptations" felt by other firmwares, such as Sveasoft, and violating the spirit of the GPL.
What do you think? Is DD-WRT a great project and staying within its boundaries? Or are you choosing another firmware based on these controversies?
Hi, thanks for the link. If it is really as they say, then this is quite serious. If parts of the code are withheld from the public, then this is certainly against the spirit of the GPL. And if this is code which was originally derived from GPL'd work, as the article suggests, then this is a serious violation of the GPL.
Furthermore, if I understand the article correctly, it is not possible to build your own fully functional dd-wrt, because of limited access to the source. If so, this is a very severe limitation indeed and I will probably start looking into OpenWRT for the WGR614L.
I think this is a problem and I would like to put more effort into openwrt.
