Does WNR3500L support 3G USB modems (Huawei E160) and/or CDC-ETHER usb ethernet?

Hi,

I am going to buy WNR3500L router, and I need some answers about it's capabilities:

1. Does this router supports 3G mobile USB modems like Huaweii E160 as WAN connections?

2. Does it support a cable modems with usb-only interface?

The modem is supported in linux with CDCEther driver and works great, so I think the router could support it if any of the firmwares have cdcether module bundled. If yes, which one?

(The modem I got have disabled ethernet port, as my ISP requires additional payment for any additional computers connected to its netwok).

The last question:

I live in Poland, and almost every shop here sells WNR-3500L-100PES router. I cannot find any information about the 100PES suffix. Does anyone know what is the difference between WNR-3500L and WNR-3500L-100PES?

 Thank for all replies.

Best regards,

SWilk

I am interested in this unit

I am interested in this unit too, to operate with my Huawei E220 device on the Orange network in the UK. The following press release suggests that the USB port is "for developing other custom applications, including remote access, DLNA/UPnP Media Server support, and USB modem support for 3G/4G/WiMax high-speed cellular connections".

http://www.netgear.co.uk/common/pdfs/WNR3500L_release_UK_FINAL.pdf

I suspect this means that the default firmware will not connect to a 3G modem, but that the hardware supports it, and all it requires is a compatible Linux build to provide this functionality. I suspect it is a matter of time therefore, but I will do some more searching and will post anything here if I find it.

Hi,

Hi,

Have a look at this.

http://blog.josefsson.org/2007/07/22/linksys-wrt54g3g-huawei-e600-openwr...

This should help you get going when it comes to the WNR3500L hardware.

Generally I found OpenWRT to be easier to work with when doing custom stuff but I guess it all boils down to what you are used to.

Good luck !

Since build 14144 of dd-wrt there is support for 3G/UTMS USB modems. I don't know which modems that is supported.

Look in this thread http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=69970
