dropping connections on latest dd-wrt mega (LAN and occasionally wireless)

Hi,

I flashed today my wnr3500l with dd-wrt mega. Before all was more or less working besides some ocassional internet disconnects. I have the netgear attached to an Arcor (zyxel) router via the LAN port. I have blamed the zyxel router for the occasional disconnections before but since the upgrade things have gotten out of hand. I'm experiencing internet disconnects at least once an hour, sometimes also the WIFI connection drops.

what can I do? back to stock firmware? My WRT54GL on dd-wrt mini runs like there is no tomorrow, never had problems with it. Who to blame - the hardware or dd-wrt (since the stock disconnected as well). Is there a more stable distro available? Was looking into open-wrt but don't have the time ATM to get into much new stuff, just need something that works,

Thanks for your advice.

Thomas

Just realized this should probably have gone into troubleshooting - Sorry. Would one of the admins be so kind :-)

What version of DD-WRT? 13972 or higher?

I run DD-WRT v24-sp2 (02/23/10) mega - build 13972. It was the latest on the download page. Is there a later version available?

I actually don't need most of the fancy stuff in the mega build right now - would it make sense to flash to mini?

I don't know if changing to

I don't know if changing to Mini would help. Especially since you had problems with the stock firmware too.

If you have problems with the

If you have problems with the wifi connection I would check if lowering the tx power to 20mW helps. dd-wrts default value is pretty high which may heat up the transceiver and therefore cause disconnects.
If you had disconnects on the wan side before, then you should check if you can improve the signal quality. Does the zyxel router have statistics about connection quality? If it is a pppoe (dsl) connection you can for example connect the splitter directly to the telephone cable not via connector from the tae adapter to the modem, tests I did show that you save 1-2 dB that way.

I manually set now the WIFI

I manually set now the WIFI channel in DD-WRT to 9. I had it previously on "Auto" anticipating that it would choose the channel with the least interference but it choose 11 which had 2 other members on the same band. It's really hard to get a clear frequency in a residential area especially if you have other devices popping up over the course of a day. So far things have gotten more stable which makes me think it could be a WIFI issue alone.

Is there something else I could improve? There is "Channel Width" with values between 10,20,40 and Auto. Right now it's on 20. Would it make more sense for a more narrow bandwith or wider in my case.
