Multiple Issues (VLANS, poor Wireless performance, multiple SSIDs)

Hello All,

I just started using DD-WRT on my Netgear WNR3500L and the interface is a little confusing so it is entirely possible I have a setting wrong.

I was hoping to use them to provide an Internal wireless along side a guest network with VLAN Trunking.

So the internal network is VLAN 1 and the external is VLAN5

The problem comes in that the wireless performance is horrendous in this setup.

Sometimes it will not get Ip address. The signal is weak , the speeds are bad.

I did find out that CTS was turned on for some reason. Turning this off at least made it so that the connection speed would go above 5mbps . Now the max I have seen is 65mpbs.

One of the main problems seems to be something with the bridging:  I can always connect to the router gui when connected via wireless even if traffic does not seem to be getting any further. So I'm thinking part of the unreliableness is something to do with how I have my bridging setup.

So I'm looking for help with that as there are a few settings I don't understand(Such as under VLAN tab there is a setting that says wireless and the options are "LAN" or "NONE")

It is weird because sometimes Wireless clients connect and it works just fine and then after a while they can't ping anything besides the WLAN router like traffic is not getting any further then the router.

As far as firmware I'm currently using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/17/11) vpnkong - build 17600:17602M.

Thanks for any ideas!

I had setup a guest network

I had setup a guest network one time and had similar issues. It wasn't overly important to me so I just shut it down.
That said, you're transmitting two wireless networks from the same antennas and they're probably going to conflict. Are they on separate channels? Obviously they should have different SSIDs.
Honestly my opinion on the whole guest network issue is you really should just use a separate router for the guest. Again, multiple network from the same antennas will cut your bandwidth. It's like setting up a wireless mesh network (which I've also done before). For every node in the network you cut your bandwidth by ~50%. Even with just two routers in the mix I lost considerable bandwidth from my wireless.
