I have a question for you all

I have a question for you all..My built in wireless just went on my toshiba laptop so i had a netgear wireless usb 54g laying around and it runs good..I just received a new mini realtek wireless (N) usb and the speed just dropped in half..
I am running a netgear wireless (g) router..Do I need a wireless (N) router???

Dave Chud, yes, you will need

Dave Chud, yes, you will need an N router in order to get N speeds with your N wireless USB adapter. Some of those mini USB adapters don't get a very good signal, in my experience. But back to your question, if you don't have a need for faster network performance (like streaming movies), then you're probably fine just to stay at G speeds and use the G USB adapter.

Where we live internet is

Where we live internet is provided to us by the owner of the apartments, I've always assumed that he was using a "g" router. If I were to purchase a wireless N adapter for my laptop would it improve the performance of the internet at all or would I not get any benefit from it?

Hi, I have a question

Hi, I have a question regarding wireless N routers. I currently have a wireless G router, and am looking to upgrade top a N router based on my 2 PCs not being able to DL anything with out affecting the other PC (greatly, 1/4 the dl speed maybe less 400kb/s opposed to 2.2mb/s +). The PCs are NOT wireless, they use a port each. So will an N router deliver a better connection to both or will that always affect 2 PCs no matter what the router. Thanks in advance.

I do have DSL (2.2 mbps)

I do have DSL (2.2 mbps) connection (Fios not available in my area) at my home. I am told by verizon that I need minimum of 3 mbps for streaming Netflix movies in my basement. Will wireless N router help me to receive signal through Sony google box. Right now I do have no signal or a spotty one.

N router may enhance the wifi signal, but as far as speeding up the ISP's line to where you could stream netflix, it won't do that, if your line doesn't meet the streaming specs - you'd need to buy more bandwidth from your ISP.
