newbie help please - wireless access point mode

I have a netgear 3500l with tomato (shibby).  my problem is I don't want it to issue IP addresses (i.e be a dhcp).  I have connected it to our office network but all the devices that attach to it get the 192.168..... address.   If I disable dhcp in the firmware and connect the upstream connection to a lan port then it issues the addresses correctly from our dhcp server BUT then I cannot connect to the tomato webpage for the device to make changes.  If i connect the upstream connection to the WAN port, then I can administer the device but the devices connected to it don't get an I.P.

I have set the device with a fixed ip address,  wireless acces point, dhcp & dns disabled, gateway mode.

Am i missing something here,  should the network connect to its WAN or LAN port.  (if connected to LAN port then how do i get access to the firmware).

I thought it would be a simple task but i've been pulling my hair out.

Haven't tried it, so I'm

Haven't tried it, so I'm thinking out loud here.

I assume you want your AP connected devices in the same subnet as the rest of your office.

Connect your AP LAN1 to your office network. Let your router run DHCP (dnsmasq) and use MAC address filtering so that your PC is the only one that can get an address? -- OR -- turn off DHCP (dnsmasq) set your PC to a static IP in the same subnet that your router is set to when you need to connect to your router?

Good Luck.
