Hi folks, I have a quick question.I am wanting to flash my R7000 with dd-wrt firmware.
I have been looking for guides and came across this one:
http://www.tweaking4all.com/hardware/netgear-r7000-dd-wrt/
It seems to indicate you first load an initial .chk file, then an updated kong version. Is this still the case? I can only seem to find one file on this site or on http://desipro.de/ddwrt.
In other words, will loading dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk (modified date of Tuesday, January 3, 2017, 12:42:02 PM) get me the latest and greatest?
Thanks,
Roger
Hey there RogerB. Welcome to the fun!
Indeed you are supposed to install the install .chk file before using an updated Kong version. I don't know why that is, but that's what I did and it worked. There seems to be a new build that I've just seen posted. I just installed it myself and it seems to work (great, thanks Kong!). However I've no idea what's different about it to the version I had before.
One thing I've found with dd-wrt and the whole router flashing concept is that it's hard to concrete answers or perfect steps 1 to N. I've found that a lot of forum scraping, asking questions, and trying stuff out ultimately gets you to where you want to be. There are no shortcuts that I've found anyway!
Here's the post with the new build: https://www.myopenrouter.com/download/dd-wrt-kong-mod-netgear-r7000-2017...
Good luck!
Having said the above, my router reset itself sveral times since I wrote that post (just after I upgraded the build). I also noticed on the other forum that other people were having trouble with this particular build.
Hence I've just rolled mine back to build 30910M which has been stable for 14 mins now (much longer than the new build typically survived!). However I'd been running this one for months straight with no problems/restarts.
Good luck!
