R6300V1 DD-WRT firmware flashing from stock ROM

Hi all,

I'm about to install DD-WRT on my second Netgear R6300V1. The first one I tried to flash the latest DD-WRT firmware on it completely bricked it with a constand amber light and I could not even unbrick it using the JTAG method using a USB-TTL adapter.

Do I need to downgrad the CFE to a particular version before flashing it with either Kong or DD-WRT firmware?
