Slow wireless speeds once a gigabit enabled device is connected

First off, I bought a WNR3500L from Best Buy and I love its features, speed, 5 gigabit ports, etc. I have two laptops in the house and they both connect to the router just fine, one is a g adapter, the other, a N adapter. The g connects at 54Mbps and the N usually at approx. 144 Mbps.

As soon as I turn on my PS3, which is connected by Cat5e cable to the first gigabit port on the router, my two laptops have dramatic decreases in wireless speed, dropping as low as 1 Mbps.

I have wpa2 setup on the router and I haven't changed any other settings on the router.

Any ideas why when a gigabit enabled device is connected, why I have such poor wireless speeds?

Pretty much the same here.

Pretty much the same here. Speeds are trash on wireless, regardless of the wireless settings. I think it's not a problem.....just that the WNR3500L is slow.

I too have a PS3 and a desktop (I use as a server) connected to the gigabit port. Is everyone talking about the speed to a connected USB drive on the router or just wireless speeds? My wireless speeds are fine when transferring files to/from a shared drive on the server. I don't have a USB drive attached because they are slower and don't need one.

I was on latest Tomato too,

I was on latest Tomato too, but switch back to Netgear firmware yesterday. Which in my case means a significant upgrade in speed:

FW Wireless Wired

Netgear 2,1MB/s 5,3MB/s
Tomato 0,9MB/s 1,4MB/s

My setup: WNR3500L with attached USB hard drive (NTFS).

I'm experiencing the speed in transfering a file from my laptop to the USB hard drive as well as downloading a file from the internet (also over wireless) and saving it on my laptop.

This being a 300N router I expected a lot more performance! (even having integrated antennas)

For those having slow speeds

For those having slow speeds downloading from the internet I suggest going to SpeedGuide.net and downloading their TCP Optimizer program and run it to optimize your TCP/IP settings for your internet connection speeds

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

I have Charter Cable internet 10mb connection and my wifi download speeds are just fine on my laptop with G (54mbs) and Tomato firmware on the router.

EDIT:

I just looked and noticed I have my 2 wired devices connected to ports 3 and 4, not 1 and 2. Don't know if this would make a difference or not, but just thought I'd throw that out there.
