Tomato on WGR614L

I tried use tomato 1.25 from this site on WGR614L. I try couple times with always the same effect. When i upload DD-WRT all works great, when i want use Tomato i finds many issues where on Linksys 54GL tomato works perfectly. A WGR614L should be better than Linksys 54GL, so why Tomato works better on Linksys?

Tomato can't connect by PPPOE, couple times after upload tomato i cant login on web-gui because http password should be set to like dsfh34kj41423@#$SDFss I must connect serial console to reset this password (each time diffrent). Reset button no work! I can't reset password to default without serial console. This is a BIG issue!

When i try compile firmware from source i had many errors on my debian box, compile fail. This from download is bad. Is chance for good version Tomato for WGR614L?

Now this router works on DD-WRT but Tomato have better QOS. And i need this QOS.

Did you try the Tomato source

Did you try the Tomato source from the downloads section. The one with the broadcom patches?

Should be OK. I never tried

Should be OK. I never tried PPPOE, but the GUI should work with no problems. What kind of compile errors did you get?

Tomato 1.23 might work better for you. I think this was the most stable release for the WGR614L. But when you succeed compiling 1.25 you might be able to fix some of the problems yourself.

Thanks for answer! While i

Thanks for answer! While i try compile by sh.script i have some strange errors like "can't patch" or question about replace/merge source files, etc, for me compilation is not automated :( I'm not good in linux ant this is for me big problem, google can't help. I buy WGR614L because have better CPU, so, tomato should be work better than on Linksys, now i know - better for me is buy Linksys than Netgear....

Maybye this firmware should be work http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/10948/Tomato-Firmware-for-NETGEAR-W..., i must try....

Which version You used? Can You send me correct link for firmware?

That file you linked should

That file you linked should be it. It has been compressed in a strange way however. I just had to extract it 3 different times. When you only use commandline you can use the "file" Linux command to see what kind of file you are dealing with and what compression technique has been used. This command has saved me so many times ;)

1.25 has not many improvements over 1.23 that I know of, so when you've got it running your good to go. But if you'd like to learn more about Linux you might consider OpenWRT. It is so much more fun to run your own compiled firmware. My OpenWRT build now supports IPv6, OpenVPN and SNMP. Pretty much impossible to do with Tomato.

Yes, strange compressed, but

Yes, strange compressed, but when rename Tomato_firmware.gz to Tomato_firmware.tar.gz then winrar or 7zip correctly decompress this file.

Ok, tommorow i try this firmware (today i don't have notebook with com port for eventually debrick router when firmware fails), but You have right, in 1.25 is many interesting features wchich is not in 1.23. I thing so better for me is seal this router and buy correct one wchich supports by Tomato....

One more time thanks for answer!

Hi,

Hi,

i sold this router and buy (worst by netgear comparasion site) Linksys. This works perfectly with Tomato and flash image take me a 5 minutes. With netgear i lose a many hours without success. DD-WRT gui cannot allow write .chk image file, by ssh too. A .trx or .bin file i cannot find. When i try couple times write tomato from original firmware then i don't have this problems, from dd-wrt is. But this formware no works for me.

I have lesson... better for me is buy worst (?) but verified box, no better (?) but unsupported....

DD-WRT default build does not

DD-WRT default build does not support chk upgrade but this site contains build for DD-WRT which support chk upgrade ....
Plus u can also find the bin images under the download section ... :)

Hi achilles!

Hi achilles!

Thanks for reply. Where is .bin Tomato firmware for this router? I check all 4 downloads from download section and i find only .chk firmware. Compilation from source failed witch many errors (i'm not linux guru, but simple use i can), google don't know nothing about this compilation errors (perhaps specific for this platform). On linksys i can change firmwares, tomato, dd-wrt, open-wrt and others works fine, flashing and configuring take 10 minutes without any surprises, on Netgera only dd-wrt works perfectly, but i think this make guys from dd-wrt, not from netgear community.

On this moment i don't buy any box from netgear without sure to work with any available freely alternative firmware. This must be easy process, without surprises!
