TRIM?

I have a new customer with a fairly old W2K3 box that does nothing more than NAS duty (OK, it's a DC also but that is kinda dumb with 3 workstations and 3 users, so they're going back to a workgroup).  The single share only holds about 30 or 40 gigs of data.

They also have a WNR3500L with factory firmware.

Updating the server will cost them a dang lot of money for nothing but file sharing.

I'm considering suggesting that they use the USB port on the router.  They could use an SSD for greater speed and longevity than a HDD would provide, since they no longer have the benefit of RAID.

Two questions beore I make this recommedation:

1. Does the USB port on the WNR3500L have enough power to run an SSD or should it use external power?

2. Does any available firmware (I use Tomato on mine) support TRIM to keep the SSD up to snuff?

TIA
