Unable to see network via VPN - can browse

I've spent ages browsing these forums and net for this answer but just can't resolve it.  Sorry if its been asked / answered before, but can't find anything...

I've got Netgear WNDR4500v1 and installed DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/14/14) giga
(SVN revision build r23075) over the weekend.  Have waded thru' and set up router on home network so everything all working internally.  I have Windows Server 2008 r2 on network where I keep all my work files (I'm self employed), and all the house media.  I also use Macbook Pro/iPads/iPhones, etc etc.  Whilst at home, can happily see and connect to everything.

I've set up VPN connection, and can happily connect and also browse from both Macbook Pro and iPads/iPhone, however, I cannot see any of the other devices (server/network printer, etc) on network, and therefore can't connect to files and folders remotely, which was whole point of flashing router with DD-WRT (I don't want to do it via RRAS on server as it proved unreliable, hence wanting to set up router as VPN device).  Oddly, I have a Net Portal app on my iphone/ipad which I can connect to Windows Server quite readily whilst out and about, but when I try to connect using Macbook Pro or Windows 7 Laptop, it doesn't connect or even see the other devices on the Home network.

My router IP address is 192.168.1.1. I've got DHCP Server running with 244 max IPs running from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.245.  VPN range is set 192.168.1.246-250 with max 5 connections.  Can't remember filling it in but WINS is set 192.168.1.1.  DNS1 setting in VPN PPTP is 192.168.1.1. I've set pott forwarding on 1723 and 47 on 192.168.1.1 (is that right?).

Really losing the will to live on this one.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially by the wife, who hasn't seen me for two days! ;-)
