WGR614Lv8 check LED orange, ping available, no tftp, power LED on-green, LAN LED on-green

Hi guys, this is my first try with WGR614L and I've managed to brick it!!! Embarassed I've installed the .chk version of the firmware on the first run, after that tried to install the VPN Generic and it said Upgrade failed! I've tried to install the Standard Generic and - success. But I need the VPN one! I've tried to install it again this time from the Standard firmware but - the same - Upgrade failed. Then I tried to upload the SP1 stable release of the VPN firmware. It did the trick but after it was uploaded it rebooted automaticaly. I waited for almost 20min. but no more signs of life:

Check LED orange, ping available, no tftp, power LED on-green, LAN LED on-green

I've read about the hard reset method - didn't help. Also doesn't seem to have tftp at the start. Tried it more than 20 times. As I read, the tftp server on the router sits there for 3 seconds right after start, I suppose it is not so hard to catch it. Also I used windows and linux to try but with no success.

HELP, PLEEEAASE!

Do you use the right address?

Do you use the right address? Have you tried 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 or your custom address?

Hi,

Hi,

I guess I got the same problem, I've bricked the device (somehow, lol).

Ping is working while booting the router, when the 'check' LED turns off the ping is not working any more :)
Can't enable telnet, can't connect via www (by LAN or WLAN).
tftp with 'put' method is not working - router is just ignoring these.
I've used wireshark to sniff what is happening there, and:
1. My router is in some strange mode - it is asking for vmlinuz image.
2. putting via tftp is not working
3. You need to set-up tftp server on your machine with IP 192.168.1.2 (others IP are ignored)
4. Then if you will put any file to tftp dir (/var/lib/tftpboot/vmlinuz) router will 'download' it via tftp

Question is:
What the hell is vmlinuz and how to 'create' it? Can I compile it somehow? What else I need to put there?

And yes, I do not have JTAG cable atm - I am out of cash.

Jab, we've managed to repair

Jab, we've managed to repair it with the serial cable and putty method. It is explained here:
http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10341/Recover-Your-WGR614L-Using-a-S...
or here:
http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10811/Hacking-Your-NETGEAR-WGR614L-H...
If you can't get this kind of cable anywhere you can get the scheme here:
http://alternet.us.com/?p=216
We couldn't find it anywhere on the stupid Bulgarian stores, so we called a friend of us who is a TV/audio technician and he made it for us, by the scheme. The only difference was that the cable was with COM port to the PC.
Once you get the cable, it is pretty easy and big fun. You see a whole new world of opportunities out there :-))) !
O, and I forgot to say that the router was in fact rebooting because it couldn't load the file system... This was the "stable SP1 VPN" release of DD-WRT. Don't use it :-) !
The bad thing is that I can't get the last VPN release working. I needed the OpenVPN. That's life :-)

Thanks for the answer, I've fixed it.
Started that tftpd server and put some random things with name "vmlinuz" - I put the orginal ckh, I put some DD-WRT bin, some DD-WRT chk. Few 'hard rebootes 30/30/30', disconnecting it AC/DC adapter for ~ 10 minuts, normal reboots.
It somehow get back to default firmware + settings. I've put the mini DD-WRT again, working like a charm. Really no idea what brings the router back to life, but 'playing' with it was worth:P

And yeah, I am pretty sure that I was trying to use the VPN version too. Mmmm... I am also pretty sure that I took the 'Recommended Beta' release (not stable). Please be careful with it :-)

How can a build a display of

How can a build a display of LED lights?
I sell emergency vehicle lights. I would like to be able select one model at a time (similar to car stereo displays commonly found in retail stores). The display would be a wall with a push button switch that would power 12vdc cigarette lighter outlet. I only want one unit to be powered at a time. Could I do this with momentary switches and a type of relay circuit?
