What firmware? :-)

So I finally got my 3500L and I'm trying to decide what firmware you flash.

Being a total noob I looked around the forums and the site for some direction but I figured someone here might have an opinion or point me to a comparison.

Thanks,

-TAC

I think most people are

I think most people are starting with DD-WRT - it's stable and featureful. Each firmware has its own loyal followers, though, so expect a lot of Tomato or OpenWRT fans to jump in on this thread :)

If you want to start with DD-WRT on the 3500L you should try v13309 which is generally regarded as a "standard" stable version, as far as I am aware.

From there you can try different firmwares. I ran v13309 on my WNR3500L for quite some time with no issues before I tried others.

Before you start flashing your router with different firmwares, though, you should become familiar with the de-bricking process and also pick up a USB-TTL cable. Just in case!

That guide is also available for other OS's if you need it.

Sybr, please update your

Sybr, please update your information. It is not hard to get dd-wrt off of the 3500L. In fact, the recommended way to install Tomato, is to first install the dd-wrt mini chk file, then rename a tomato trx file to the dd-wrt bin extension and flash it from there.

My recommendation goes to Tomato, it's fast and it is stable for me. Someone should really remove or update the old test what the different firmwares can do. Tomato does it all now I think =) It even has MiniDLNA.
