Which DD-WRT?

Hi,

I'm very new to this DD-WRT but I am in a technical field.  My old linksys router blew and decided to get the NetGear WNR3500L because of DD-WRT powerful functionity.  I'm reading stories of how people are having issues with USB using NAS.  There are so many download version of DD-WRT,  which download is the one that will provide me the USB NAS functionally in both my network and public plus ease of use.  Or should I use Tomato?

Thanks

All I can say is that NAS on

All I can say is that NAS on TomatoUSB works well (it has Samba 3 and miniDLNA built in, see in the download section). I did try dd-wrt firts, and it seemed to me that NAS worked welle also.

Concerning dd-wrt, it depends on what you want to be included inside. I used to install the mega version, 'all inclusive' as the router has enough RAM for it. But in the native version you don't have Samba or miniDLNA, you have to install them with Optware.

It's why Kong made his own version with miniDLNA, Samba (dd-wrt download section).

Hi I am just like you. I

Hi I am just like you. I decided to buy the WNR3500l and I finally got configured to my liking. First off I used Kongs release which has the Samba and miniDLNA you can dinf that here: http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/19806/DD-WRT-BETA-Kong-Mod-USB-FTP-...

I suggest upfront if you want NAS and miniDLNA to work well partition your drive accordingly: 1 for optware (ext2/3), 1 for Linux swap, and 1 for data (ext2/3)

How familiar are you linux, I had to kind of rough my way through it but it is not bad.

Here are all of the web guides I basically referenced to do what I needed to do

Let me know if you go this route and have issues, I'm sure if you run into issues I ran into the same thing, being new to this.
