maybe USB port doesnt work...
Also i would like to say that iam very satisfied with teddy bear tomato firmware. I just updated to beta 15 (i was on beta 13 before) and it works beautifully, no problems with internet/torrents and stability!
A few have alread reported this, check the forum you should find the answer how you have to poweron in order to activate usb again.
Yay! It works... turned the thing of and waited 10 seconds, turned it back on and presto! Strange realy, is the USB controller initialized in a different mode or something?
Is it possible to do web file sharing, next to FTP and SMB? I'd like a possibility to share some galleries. And DLNA?
I just exchanged the WNDR3700 for a WNR3500L yesterday and I love it. I still have the stock firmware. I had a Buffalo WHR-G125 flashed with Tomato firmware and like Tomato's GUI over DD-WRT. There was a review when WNR3500L flashed to dd-wrt over here, http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/31164-lots-more..., and claims that routing performance decreased. So when you guys flashed to Tomato, the wireless performance hasn't dropped?
@rogierg Yes it is possible, right now you have to use optware packages for that.
@No Limit, the performance difference comes from the fact that dd-wrt does not use the latest broadcom drivers, broadcom introduced a few performance enhancements in their latest binary driver which is not yet shipped with dd-wrt.
I intend to integrate the latest broadcom driver into my mod as soon as I find the time for it.
Besides that dd-wrt has more features included in it's kernel which also impacts network performance.
I'm not sure if the standard netgear firmware is compiled with optimization, by default dd-wrt is optimized for size. My mod is compiled with O2 which increases overall performance.
If I may ask why did you exchange it? I have heard of the bad production run of the wndr3700's. I am more inclined towards wired speed as wireless is an option not a requirement.
I returned it because I really didn't need the dual band (5 GHz). I'm the only one using the wireless router so I don't need a separate band dedicated just for streaming media or something like that.
Where can I download your firmware? And is it based off of Tomato or dd-wrt?
So does this firmware have dlna integrated with it? I just saw this thread... http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63587 and it lists minidlna as a feature. I was wondering because no one has mentioned the minidlna support.
I've recently installed Tomato Firmware v1.27.9046 MIPSR2-beta14 K26 USB Ext on my WNR3500L and it does have dlna support, although I have not tried it out yet.
Hello,
Can anybody make a speed test with teddy baers Tomato Mod or the v1.27.9046 version? I am very interested at this router with Tomato (because DDWRT has poor perfomance as far as I read).
How much Megabytes per second (not Mbit/s :) ) do you guys get when you.. lets say copying some video files over WLAN on an attached USB HDD?
This router seems to be a very good solution for an inexpensive NAS.
I would appreciate an answer , because I searched through the web and I havent found anyhting about Tomatos performance (I read the 1st post, however..).
Thanks guys!!
@bandicoot:
I can give you some numbers on the 9045.
Wirelessly, I get about 1.8 MB/s from an OLD HDD formatted NTFS. It should be much faster formatted ext3. Hardwired connection should also be faster than this.
Wired, I am getting about 3.8 MB/s.
I have a very old HDD with an USB enclosure. Tested with 172 MB video file.
@LJB:
Thanks! I had no idea until I saw that thread that dlna was integrated- no one had mentioned it before!
Also, I saw beta15 is out now. Can anyone comment on the stability of this update? Apparently 14 received mixed reviews...
thanks @ taekwon3dan! i appreciate your test
NTFS performance isnt great (we know it all). Apart from that a FAT32 performance testing would be nice if it is possible for somebody. i think it could be much more.
I have been using WNR3500L (running DD-WRT Mega) for a couple months now as a wireless bridge for my PS3 and small tower. I haven't had any problems at all and I was so impressed, I decided to get another to give the print server functions a shot. My father-in-law has a Konica Minolta biz MFC. I tried it first on DD-WRT (last stable release) and tried to follow the wiki without much success. I got as far as it being recognized as connected by the router but could not print anything. I didn't try a couple troubleshooting steps afterwards that I probably should've, but either way, I got frustrated and decided to try TomatoUSB. The GUI is nice and easier to work with. Again, the router detects my printer but I can't print. I'm going to play with it again when I get a chance. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, for what I was using it for, the tomato works best for me (so far).
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to all of them. I'm using the Konica Minolta UPD and I just can't seem to get it to work.
@bimbot:
What exactly did you try? You have to add TCP/IP port printer using Windows. See my earlier post above.
Also see here:

@taekwon3dan
I've done those steps; pretty easy to follow but still cannot print. Tomato is detecting the printer as an "Attached Device" but I just can't print. I'm using a Konica Minolta Universal Printer Driver so I don't understand why it doesn't work.
I did ssh into the router and netstat doesn't show port 9100 listening. Should it be?
