One of your readers requested a Version to Serial Number Cross Reference List to determine which version of the router one has based on the serial number of the router. I was also interested in finding out the same information. I was able to gather the following information by examining stock at local dealers, information provided by the NETGEAR Pre Sales Department and some additional information I had in my files.
If the first three digits of the serial number is 1JN the router is a KWGR624NA
If the first three digits of the serial number is 1SV the version number is V9
If the first three digits of the serial number is 1MF the version number is V8 or WGR614L
If the first three digits of the serial number is 1J1 the version number is V7
If the first three digits of the serial number is 166 the version number is V6
If the first three digits of the serial number is WR7 the version number is V5
Please note that the correct version number is printed on the outside of the box for versions V2 to V7. The initial version has no version number on the box or the label on the bottom of the router. The initial version through V4 is in a Silver housing. Later versions are in white housings.
