Upgraded my R8000 from stock firmware to DD-WRT "Kong Mod" for NETGEAR R8000 2016-11-10 and found that everythig is great except for DDNS.
I am and have previously used No-IP.com with no issues. I can see from the status window that the alias has been updated successfully and verified this within No_IP.com site.
The issue that I am experiencing is that I can remotely connect to and administer the router when the Firewall is turned off. When the firewall is on the incomming connection attempt is dropped. I can see this from the logs.
I have everthing unchecked on the firewall page except for Block Anonymous WAN Requests (ping).
I would really appreciate some assistance to get this working when the firewall is active.

Ok - fixed my own poblem after sleeping on it.
Issue was that I didnt add the port number to the address. Ie: - for example: http://abc.def.net did not work. ttp://abc.def.net:8080 worked.
