I think I just made a huge mistake and flashed my WNR3500Lv2 with the Toastman Tomato Firmware 1.28.7486.4.

Now this must be a firmware that don't work on my router as power LED lamp are steady in orange (maybe yellow) and I can't connect by wire or wifi.

When i connect my laptop by Ethernet I get a strange 192.254.x.x IP.

Is there any solution or did I just waste $$$ on my mistake?

(I tried to make a 30/30/30 reset with no success)

Did you set a static IP address in your computer or is is set to obtain an address automatically? The default setup for Tomato for DHCP to be disabled.

It's set to obtain an IP address, using DHCP. I can not do anything with my router, as I can't connect to it.

It recognizes that a Ethernet cable is connected, but that's all.

yuo did huge mistake and brick your router. Only my "dedicated" tomato build support 3500Lv2.

Why not? If you have problem in traslating phases in Mac app terms you could put a windows OS in a VirtualBox and do the job!

Ok good. I will see if I will give it a try, as I see that there is many comments about different cables etc. and looks like a big task for me.

Looking for the TTL-232R-3V3 cable and it's almost half the price of the router. By the way, what's the difference between the WNR3500L and the WNR3500? The WNR3500 is almost ?30 more.

I remember back on the WNR3500Lv1, there was a handy but bit more risky trick, by which you could use a small precision flat-head screwdriver to form a connection between two pins on the motherboard which would force the router into a recovery mode in which it would accept a tftp of the firmware - No serial cable needed. I wonder if a similar feature exists in the v2 and which pins it would be.

In v2 there are no pins one will able to shortcut. Things are getting smaller. But maybe there would be another way on the circuit board to make a shortcut.

Did not find anything about it though.

I guess there is no chance to try to get the router fixed on the warranty?

Netgear will. Just register router on netgear page and send router on the warranty.

3500 hasn`t USB port. 3500L and 3500Lv2 has.

Good news, I called Dustin from where I bought it. And they will just send me a new one =) So what Tomato software will I use this time to get it working?

- 3500L
- 3500v2
- 3500Lv2

3500Lv2 with the USB port at the back.

If the replacement is DEFINITELY a V2 then choose Shibby's  K26RT-N builds: http://tomato.groov.pl/index.php?dir=K26RT-N:  (Version 0.88 is the lastest at the time of this post).

1) Any of the firmwares located in the "WNR3500Lv2" directory of any of the versions 0.83 or later will work. 

2) If you don't need VPN support, the AIO build should work fine. I'm runnng tomato-Netgear-3500Lv2-K26USB-1.28.RT-N--088V-AIO.chk in mine. 

3) Then download and flash from the Netgear firmware upgrade screen as before and your in business. 

If it's a V1 then you will need to use Toastman's builds which can be found in the download section of this site.  

Thanks! What do you men with "If the replacement is DEFINITELY"? Can't one restore the original firmware if one flash with the Shibby's K26RT-N?

Netgear sells the WNR3500Lv2 in a practically identical looking packaging as the v1 with a subtle differences such as listing 128MB Flash in the specs versus 64MB Flash for the v1. I have found that some router manufactures will use the same packaging for a new hardware revisions of the same model making it hard to tell until you open the box to know what router version you have. And yes, whether or not you use Shibby's build on a v2 or Toastman's build on v1, you CAN revert back to stock firmware from each. =)

The V2 works differently to previous versions. tftp does not come up automatically for a short time when the router is booted. You have to manually access the router with serial port and turn on tftpd. Only then can you tftp new firmware to it. So there will be no trick such as shorting pins which will enable tftpd.

When flashing the V2 with new firmware, please make absolutely certain that the build you flash is clearly marked 3500L V2

Toastman branch RT-N now supports the V2.

Chose AIO version.

I just flashed the router with this firmware (092 AIO) And at the default settings my download speed is terrible? Normal download speed is 13Mbps, but with this firmware I get max 1Mbps.

The upload speed is normal.

Update: When connected via Ethernet the download speed is full. When next to the router I get 8.5Mbps download speed. So I have a serious wifi problem with version tomato v092.

Having bricked my router once. I want to be sure, and want to ask if this is the right software for my router WNR3500L v2 http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/38605/Tomato-by-Shibby-for-WNR3500L... before I download and flash it.

I have tested tomato-Netgear-3500Lv2-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x--101-AIO.chk with Netgear 3500Lv2. It seems to work fine.
