Hi All,
I need to revert back to factory firmware for my Netgear R8500 after loading the latest Kong DD-WRT (June 2017). My wireless
performance has significantly been reduced and I tried tweaking all the settings but I still only get half the speed I used to get with
the stock firmware.
I downloaded the the latest Netgear firmware .chk format from their support website, then did a hard reset (30/30/30) on the router, then thru
the DD-WRT web console I flashed the firmware with the Netgear .chk file and then did another hard reset. However whenever the router
boots back up and I go to 192.168.1.1 I keep getting the DD-WRT page and the firmware doesn’t get updated or changed. I get firmware updated successfully and no error messages at any step of the way.
i also tried to load the firmware with the TFTP tool but that never works for me and I get an error “unable to connect to server” error even though I can ping the router just fine from the command prompt or get to the DD-WRT we Guti.
Is there something special I need to do to unload Kong’s DD-WRT for the R8500 or am I missing something else to revert or flash the factory the Netgear firmware.
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance
This is my 3rd R8500 from launch as they keep going out every 6 to 9 months. That being said, this is the first time I have had problems reverting to the factory firmware using the exact two methods you have described. I have done theis many times in the past with no issue, but after hours of working on this I just can't get the factory back on. Something must have changed...
Have you guys been able to figure this out, I'm also having lots of issues with my WiFi.
Can't revert back from ddwrt! please help.

Same I want to flash back and can't find a way
Me as well. Using the Nov 4th version of Kong.
Doesn't work for me. Why?
Same problem on my end. Everything looks fine when I put in .chk file from Netgear but it just keeps going back to dd-wrt upon 192.168.1.1...
Figured it out! You have to use the previous Netgear Firmware Version 1.0.2.100.
Thank you rjruiz, using the older release worked for me as well.
RJ,
you are are my hero!
You Are Super! Although I am not going to leave the firmware DD-WRT , but the opportunity to roll back to the factory is priceless!
Thank You!
Fucking love you!!! It work.
