My WGR614L wants *.bix files for upgrades.

Hi
I was going to try Tomato on my WGR614L. It is currentlly running firmware V1.0.1_10.17WW.

However, when I try to upload the new firmware which comes with a .CHK extension, i guet the following:

Invalid filename was provided, please enter again (*.bix)

I have tried this with IE7, IE5, Opera 9.62, Firefox 3.0.4, Chrome 0.2.149.27 and Apple Safari 3.1.2.

I searched for .BIX in this forum and the internet but the only hits I got were to do with a conflict between the Netgear and Firefox when doing upgrades. Like I said I've tried almost every browser out there without any luck.

Is .CHK and .BIX the same file type and I only have to rename the file or is .CHK a compressed file type?

About the only thing I have't done yet is to try the upgrade in Ubunto

Thanks

Sorry my fault!

Sorry my fault!

I though I had the WGR614L but I actually have the older KWGR614 'Open Source'. I bought this a while ago from Amazon (back when the price was £40):

"Netgear Open-Source WGR614 Wireless-G Router for Linux Developers & Enthusiasts"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Open-Source-Wireless-G-Developers-Enthus...

Although I had looked at Tomato and DD-WRT I obviously hadn't paid enough attention since under "Item model number:", Amazon do list it as a KWGR614-100UKS.

A pity since I really had wanted to try Tomato and the KWGR614 is unique in open-source routers in that it there is no 3rd-party firmware available for it

Actually I would have been better off buying the Buffalo WHR-G125 for £40 in Argos, but at the time I was a bit weary of that one since I'd heard reports of overheating.

Anyway thanks for reply.
