Newbie question - Security disables use as repeater bridge

I have a WGR614L newly flashed to V24-9281. My "master" router is a D-Link DI634M with ver 2.01. I can use the netgear as a wireless router, but only if I have no security enabled on the D-Link. Am I missing something here?

Make sure that you are using

Make sure that you are using same security mechanisms in both the primary router i.e the D-Link router and secondary router i.e the WGR614L .
One more thing.... I would suggest you to try first configuring your WGR614L as a client bridge and see if you can connect this with D-Link router or not using the security you wish to use ...

I have configured my board as

I have configured my board as client bridge with DD-WRT (11205 build) .... I am using D-Link WBR-2310 as a primary router ...
I have tested that I am able to connect to primary router using WEP and WPA and I am able to ping primary router from my WGR614L's console using wireless ...
I am yet to test the client bridge and repeater bridge features but will let u people know once I have done it .... :)

Well ... I have done my

Well ... I have done my testings with DD-WRT (build 11205) and found that client and repeater bridge both work OK ....

Hawken35,
Could you please tell where did you get the DD-WRT build which you are using currently ..... Did you download it from this site or you built it yourself....
I need it to test it at my side ...
You can find the DD-WRT build that I used from the following link :

http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/10752/DD-WRT-v11205-Mini-Build-CHK-...

BTW I don't have the D-Link router which you have but I have done my testings with Linksys and D-Link WBR-2310 and it should not be a router specific problem ...
So I would suggest you to try with 11205 mini build available at this site ..
Do let me know about your proceedings in this regard ...
All d best ...

Yes, i am using a build of DD

Yes, i am using a build of DD-WRT obtained from this site. I will try updating to the 11205 build tonight and respond back with the results.

Well I flashed the router

Well I flashed the router tonight to the 11205 mini build and it looks like I have bricked it. No response on any default IP address, no response on the address it had. Only Green power and amber check lights lit. Wan and port lights do light up if a cable is plugged in, but no wireless lights. Guess its time to look for a serial and dig a little deeper.

Did you try with reset button

Did you try with reset button ... try with pressing reset button for 5-10 seconds ..

Yes, tried a 5-10 sec press

Yes, tried a 5-10 sec press of reset. Also found instructions on this site for a hard reset pressing button for 30 secs then power down while button pressed as well as pressing button while powering back up. Still the same. Currently it will act as a switch, passing DHCP traffic with cables connected to the DI634 and system plugged into the netgear, but will not respond to pings.Physical ports show connections, but no wireless light comes on.

Well in the interests of

Well in the interests of determining what I did wrong, it looks like I now have a second router in the same state. New router with stock V1.1.2_1.0.25NA build. Router is WRT614L-100NAS. H/W is V8. All these were confirmed from web GUI of the router before starting. Pull down a new copy of the 11205 build from this site. Flash through the stock update page. Access the new DD-WRT page and change username and password. Reset the router and here things go downhill. Router is now in the same state as the first one, power and check lights. However there is a cycle on the power light of @ 30 secs with a blink. This looks to me like the router may be in a loop causing the issue. I do have a serial cable on its way, but what gives, if you can flash the router but not power down without causing issues?

I guess ur second router is WGR614L not WRT614L ..... I have tested fitmwares available here on Netgear routers (WGR614Ls) and not on WRTs which I think are Linksys' ..... moreover the firmwares on this site are meant for Netgear routers only ....

If you are going to get a serial cable then you can send me the log that you are getting at boot time ....

It seems that u have corrupted flash/nvram and as a result ur rootfs is not getting mounted properly ... Do provide me the log of boot process ...

Sorry, you are right, it is WGR614L. Must have bee frustration typing. The serial cable should be here this week sometime. I will post a log of the boot process.
