For all of you using the Tomato firmware...
I'm excited for the WGR614L that NETGEAR is releasing soon. It's a Broadcom based router, so it will work with Tomato. So far, I've used DD-WRT, so it will be nice to try out the other options in detail.
Anyone out there using Tomato? How do you like it?
I have never used Tomato. but have used DD-WRT and Sveasoft. If compatible with DD-Wrt I am really looking forward to it!
Yup, it's going to be compatible with DD-WRT. Check out this blog entry for more details. We have hardware and software specs up too!
Does the Tomato firmware have to be modified or is it direct from the Polarcloud website?
The tomato version you find here is a modified version.
YOu just bricked your router. Since it is still new, just return it to the place you purchase it and say it is faulty. :) I suggest returning it and get the Linksys WRT54G Linux as it seems to fully support ddwrt, tomato, and openwrt.
I had sold both my netgear WGR614L as I got tired of waiting for full support of third party firmware.
Does anybody know Netgear router with WPA security, which is running under Tomato ?
Thanks in advance
KC LEE
I have been using the Tomato firmware on a Linksys WRT54GS for over a year - maybe two. The router has been rock solid ever since loading Tomato. Lots of options and I personally think it is easy to configure.
I don't use a lot of the features, but I have used the Access Restriction portion extensively to shut down certain computers or devices at certain times of the day or night. Quite often there are three computers and a X-Box 360 running at the same time and the router plugs right along.
I recently saw the new Netgear router, WNR3500L, being released soon (i hope) that will be able to run tomato. I am excited to make the jump to an "N" router....running Tomato.
Yep darren , the WNR3500L already supports tomato .... You can get the tomato f/w under download section of WNR3500L at this site ...
all d best :)
Except that Tomato doznt support N!
The wireless mode is dependent on the wireless driver which is by default N for WNR3500L .. so by default it will operate in N mode only ....
But there is no GUI option in Tomato f/w using which u can change the wireless mode ...
I recently bought a WGR614L. At the moment it is running with DD-WRT (eko / svn11100). Is there anyone who got tomato running on that router sucessfully (WLAN + PPPoE)?
I have a WGR614L where I use tomato .... It works fine and supports WLAN too ...
I have not checked for PPPoE (I dnt need it as of now ).... but it z supported in tomato ...
U can download the tomato builds for WGR614L at :

Let us know if you need any further info ..
Is it possible to use WPA/WPA2 with this release?
How about the stability?
Yep WPA/WPA2 is supported there ...
Have any of you been able to use N speed (150-300mbit) on the WNR3500L wireless using tomato? An earlier comment suggests that even though its not available in the GUI the router defaults to N speed.
I can get connected using N setting om my wireless card but the transfer speed is equal to G (54Mbit). When switching to original Netgear firmware i get proper N speeds.
Maybe possible to telnet/ssh into the router and edit some config file?
Any ETA on WPA support in Tomato?
i've wrote some news here ,

Great news!
Will try it out!
