is Netgear telling us a lie about the 64 MB of RAM?

Hi,

because this damned router is still not yet available in germany I searched for an alternative. Because of this I found a thread in the dd-wrt forum that just 32 MB of 64 are enabled and useable?!

Please give a qualified comment on this what's up now about the RAM in this router.

Hi i wonder this to! Here at

Hi i wonder this to! Here at myopenrouter.com its specified at 64MB. In all online shops in Sweden its specified at 32MB. What the hell is going on here. Did i misunderstand anything?

And then we have this threads that tell us that only 32MB is enabled:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=371791#371791

If it has 64MB onboard but only 32MB enabled this seems to be a marketing scam.

Netgear - please clarify this!

I'm more and more thinking

I'm more and more thinking that this WNR3500L router is a big marketing gag from NETGEAR.

At first it was "released" beginning of last obctober. Now we've almost end of december and it's near to impssible to buy such a device.
Then I read that it "just" offer 32 MB instead of 64 megs. I becomee really annoying because of there stonewalling and lies about this router.

May be I should wait and still buy another router instead which offer a 533 MHz CPU and real 128 MB of RAM and 2 USB ports from a big vendor of motherbords. It's just luck for NETGEAR that I've still not going to buy this device because it's still not available yet too.
Ok, it would costs almost 50 € more then the WNR3500L but what shall I do if I need a powerful router soon because my old WRT54G failure.

Anywy, if anyone has a good, powerful alternative for me from another vendor please let me know to mic[at]gmpf.de . I would be really interested in it. I've already ordered the WNR3500L and should get it the next days but it's still not a problem for me to send it back (may be the only solution to show NETGEAR that their politician sucks like hell)!

I get your point but donÂ’t think itÂ’s properly clarified. We can conclude that there is 64MB "mounted" in the device - this is not the question. The problem is that only 32MB seems to be enabled. When "EKO" says that only 32MB is enabled I trust him since he is the guy thatÂ’s "makes" the firmware I am going to use. Adding to this is that if all the stores that sell the device specify that it have 32MB there is obviously something wrong.

The question as I se it is: why is only 32MB is enabled. Is the other 32MB in use for something else or is it going to be enabled or has something changed since EKO wrote the post.

I am wondering because I plan to by this device since I think its seems to be an great device with 64MB ram and support from DD-WRT and Tomato. But if it only has 32MB enabled it feels like buying a Core 2 Duo with only one core enabled - and that would make me and the rest of the world angry.

Ok, I've now DD-WRT installed yesterday evening. It shows 64 MB of memory. But just a cpu clock of 453 MHz?!?
