I've used a couple of weeks tomato
1.27 beta version WNR3500l Base Station (Tomato for NETGEAR WNR3500L 1.27 MIPS32r2 Early BETA). I really love tomato, because of it's use AJAX..but.. I realized that my netgear link to wan (internet) is working very slow, without any reasons..I should have 24 Mbps/1 Mbps internet speed, but I get only ~3-6 / 0.2. Without netgear connection speed is about 20/1. So problem is in netgear/tomato. if anyone has any ideas
what could be slowing down in my case, I would be grateful to hear. Currently I haven't test with original/DDWRT firmware..

-WAN connected to ADSL-modem (dhcp)

I have the same problem hir. I have 100/100 mbits
whit the netgear fw I get 260/168 mbits and whit tomato fw beta10 I get 87/68 mbits
tomato dasint support gigabyte in WAN
But 24/1 doesn't need gigabyte wan, either my adsl-modem support that, so it shouldn't depend on that, I think.. But good point anyway, I didn't know that. Strange, now it looks working again, almost like it should be work.. I just reboot couple times my modem, maybe it helps..
if it dosent work, Try to set the MTU 1492
