Hi jmccrohan,

Hi jmccrohan,

actually this is a good idea.

Kong,

Kong,

I am seeing the same problem mrdon213 reported. I have the power in mine set at 28. My laptop just a feet away only shows a signal of 33 while the clients upstairs are in the low teens. Raising it to 42 or 71 made no difference, which was the same problem I had with Tomato 9047 and 9048. I am wondering if the power setting is responsive at all in either dd-wrt or tomato. There were some Tx and Rx errors (less than 0.5%), but within norm. The Netgear firmware does not show signal strength, but the clients (including distant ones upstairs or downstairs showed a strong link speed -- 243 or above usually).

My settings are pretty much default except for enabling bluetooth coexistence and frame burst enabled. I run on channel 1, 40 MHz. Tried some other uncrowded channels including 9 and 11 but no luck.

Regarding NAS, should I disable "public" option if I want to access files already on the drive? I saw a folder for public, but my existing folders could not be accessed. I am mounting NTFS to /mnt.

Thanks for any input.

I re-oriented the router by 90 degrees and I got all my clients to have a signal of over 15. So far so good. Most of my N clients are at 270 link rate. Excellent!

I also changed the mount point to /jffs as you instructed before to someone else, and I am able to see all my folders.

But how do I set a password? I entered a username and password in user1/password1 but it does not seem to do anything.

Thanks. Will continue testing.

Hi Kong. First of all I

Hi Kong. First of all I really do appreciate all the work put into this. I do have one problem here I just haven't been able to figure out. With Tomato my wired gigabit machines average about 85 MB/s with machine to machine file transfers (gigabyte size or larger files). Every time I try any version of DD-WRT I'm getting about 56 MB/s which is a huge drop for me. I've shut off QOS and all the normal things a guy would check for but it seems it is what it is with this firmware. I'm using Intel gigabit server nic's with jumbo set at 9k if that makes any difference. Thanks.

Yes Jumbo Frames could make a difference, currently DD-WRT does not support Jumbo Frames for at least broadcom units.
Have you done the testing with my builds or official dd-wrts builds. At least for WAN-LAN transfers my mod increases throughput by 50%

Thanks for the answer. I

Thanks for the answer. I disabled jumbo on 2 machines and the performance was exactly the same. Then I changed the firmware over to the big version found in the downloads section and the throughput is now at about 60 MB/s which still isn't so good. Am I the only one getting these slow lan to lan speeds? I may need to switch back to the default netgear firmware to see what's actually in it. I only used it long enough to flash it.

@Kong:

@Kong:

I was able to flash your build on a wrt610nv2 (which I transformed back from e3000). The performance is excellent. I am exceeding the speeds provisioned from my ISP (43/35) by Gigabit LAN and near full throttle on wireless.

I got the following USb speeds by Gigabit transfer:
PC to drive (500 MB file), NTFS:
1.8 MB/s

drive to PC:
4.2 MB/s

Now I will just have to figure out how to modify the smb.conf file to activate a password. I take it I have to customize and put in the modified file in the box, right? Can you refer me to a configuration that has proven to work?

Thanks in advance.

Does DD-WRT BETA Kong Mod USB

Does DD-WRT BETA Kong Mod USB/FTP/miniDLNA/Samba3 for NETGEAR WNR3500L added on May 17, 2010 support PPPoE?

First, using setup wizard in Netgear CD, I successfully connect via ATT DSL modem

 - Internet: PPPoE with login, IP & DSN address get Automatically from ISP, any option for MAC address worked fine.

 - LAN DHCP worked with 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1

 - WAN worked fine

After having flashed DD-WRT, I'm unable to connect to Internet.

Click on Connect button under Status/WAN always got Connection Type     Disabled

I have tried to setup similar to what Netgear options, but many dosen't match, such as Advanced Routing, Networking, Wireless Mode...

Finally, telnet always responds Login Incorrect, so I cannot erase to go back Netgear FW

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

Tomato has Jumbo support, I guess that is the reason for the performance difference. I'll put this on my ToDo list:-)

@taekwon3dan+ Dima, here is an explanation(note there is a bug that prevents the second user to be created, will be fixed with the next release):

@kynet,

I'm using a PPPoE Connection myself. Did you fill out PPPoE Connection settings under:

Setup->Basic Setup Connection Type PPPoE

Hm. I installed your firmware

Hm. I installed your firmware now. First thing I tested was the PPPOE reconnect feature. Well suprise suprise. It doesnt reconnect at all which renders the router useless at this point cuz I'm cut off each 24 hours.

Edit:
Tomato latest works fine. I guess I gonna stay on that for now.

Hi Kong,
Yes, I filled login info under: Setup->Basic Setup Connection Type PPPoE
same as I did when using Netware FW, but unable connect to Internet

Whast ISP do you use?

What modem?

Did you connect the modem to the yellow WAN Port?

Have you done a complete Reset(Holding reset button power on and still hold the reset button for another 30s)

PPPoE reconnect definitely works, since that is what I use. Once you login via telnet or ssh you will see a process using:

ps ax

that reads:

/tmp/ppp/redial 30

means it checks every 30s if the connection is still alive.

With Netgear firmware:

  - Successfully connect ATT via DSL Speedstream modem

 - Internet: PPPoE with login, IP & DSN address get Automatically from ISP, any option for MAC address worked fine.

 - LAN DHCP worked with 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1

 - WAN worked fine

With 05/17/10 DD-WRT "Kong Mod" firmware:

I have tried to setup similar to what Netgear options with login info, but many dosen't match, such as Advanced Routing, Networking, Wireless Mode...

Only the comercial dd-wrt has builtin pppoe relay support:

@kynet,

@kynet,

this modem suffers from an ethernet port autonegociate bug, the netgear firmware doesn't seem to have the problem because it uses an old 2.4 kernel and older ethernet driver. Tomato DD-WRT use a 2.6 series. You can try the following and see if that works:

-configure netgear router with all settings for pppoe and reconnect
-power down and quickly power on again

wait for 15 minutes and check if you get a connection. There used to be a firmware upgrade available for that modem, but the producer of the modem does not exist anymore

I have tried your firmware

I have tried your firmware again and replaced it with dd wrt big where force reconnect works as fine as in tomato. Yours only disconnects me but wan never comes back.

Hi Kong,

My modem (part#060-5360-123) doesn't need firmware fix as the previous (Part #060-5360-023)

Tred 15 min twice, didn't work.

Telnet always repondes Login incorrect.  How to flash back Netgear's firmware?

Other way I should try

Thanks,

If you login via ssh you

If you login via ssh you could do the following:

killall pppd
echo "debug" >> /tmp/ppp/options.pppoe
echo "kdebug 1" >> /tmp/ppp/options.pppoe

openup a second console and tail the logfile:

tail -f /var/log/messages

start pppd again and watch the messages:

pppd file /tmp/ppp/options.pppoe

Has anyone noticed with this

Has anyone noticed with this version that having two juniper vpn sessions on two seperate machines causs the vpn to disconnect after a hour or two? The prior version didn't seem to have this problem. But I not sure if it is the new firmware or something else.

I had issues connecting to my work VPN through the router. It would disconnect every few minutes. I just chalked it up as a problem with my work's VPN however it may be an issue with the latest firmware update. I will have to try some experimenting to see if it is.

I'm using Kong's latest DD-WRT build (from this thread) and I can't see any slowdown in LAN to LAN speeds. I get about the same LAN to LAN throughput as I get from a normal ethernet switch.

I'm running the benchmark server on an OpenSolaris host (in my basement so the traffic passes two gigabit switches on it's way there) and the client on a Linux host.

TCP Speed test, host=bilbo, transfer size=50000000 bytes

Half Duplex
Receive = Throughput: 871364775 bps (871.36 Mbit/s)
Send    = Throughput: 931412696 bps (931.41 Mbit/s)

Full Duplex
Send    = Throughput: 907313399 bps (907.31 Mbit/s)
Receive = Throughput: 614864345 bps (614.86 Mbit/s)

Hello Kong and everybody,

Hello Kong and everybody,

Above all, great job Kong

Here is a note:

I am under windows 7.

Installing the firmware: OK
The external drive is fat 32:
- The DLNA server works fine fat 32 (video, image, music).
- Samba is working properly (read / write)

I converted my external drive to NTFS (using the convert command of Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881) (because it is a possibility of firwmware), and now the DLNA server doesn't work, that is to say impossible to see the contents of directories ... ..

Does someone had the same problem ????

Can anyone tell me how to

Can anyone tell me how to properly change the ftp port? Seems my isp COX blocks any kind of server port, too bad for me because I enjoy the speed they provide and DSL can't compare in my area. Anyway, I tried changing the ProFTPD server port to another port such as 31 and then from a location away from home type in ip address - 24.xxx.xxx:31 with no luck. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also a big thanks to Kong for this, my NAS speeds are WAY better than with factory firmware, network file transfer to a usb device was painful before. Now it actually responds! Thanks!

Edit: after a little more digging I realized I needed to turn of SPI firewall and bingo! Thanks again.
