Today I bought a Netgear WNR3500L because I'm sick and tired of the slow transfer speeds I'm getting with my aging WRT54GS. First thing I did when I got the new Netgear was install Tomato (v1.27.9045 MIPSR2-beta11 K26 USB Ext)
My Windows 7 computer connected via a wired connection to the router is reporting the connection speed as 1Gbps. It's running an FTP server. When I try to download a file from it to my Mac laptop (which does support gigabit ethernet and 802.11n) at the other end, the transfer speed is not any faster than with my old 802.11g/100Mbps router. With a wired connection, I get 10-12MB/s and with a wireless connection I get 2.5-3MB/s.
Any ideas why it isn't any faster?
in tomato, go to section "advanced" then click miscallenaous and then make sure that option Enable Jumbo Frames in enabled!!
Jumbo frame size is in my case 9000!
You need to set same or similar jumbo frame size on your NIC in PC (just go to NIC properties...)
Regards
That seemed to help a little bit.. Now I'm getting 22 or so MB/s transfer over ethernet, but I'm still only getting 3-4 MB/s over wireless.
you have N wireless cards on your PC?
Of course I do.
make sure that you enable 40mhz channel width and put Wireless Network Mode to N only.
And PC and router have to be close enough...
Tryed that but still only slow speed on my WNR3500L ??
