I have another laptop that's connecting fine to the router wirelessly & the desktop is working fine through it as well. This HP Pavillion with Vista 64 is not connecting wirelessly, but works if I am wired to the router. I'm connected to the network wirelessly...but only for a local connection & have no internet.
I've called Netgear- she said they can't offer help on the open source router & I have to go to this site. I called the cable company...not their problem, modem is working fine. I called HP, checked the config settings....they said its fine- contact netgear. So please help, any ideas....its been a long day of frustration.
Thanks.
Yes,thank you. The wireless has been working fine with the g router I had before this one. It's perplexing. It's an entertainment notebook about a year & a half old. Any other ideas?
OK, I got it to work by disabling security. And WEP security is working also. Is there a way to check if the wireless works with WPA? Its an atheros AR 5007 802.11 in the computer.
Thanks.
Can you supply a screenshot of the wireless settings that cause the problem?
hi
i just bought my WNR500L last week, then i set it up normally and it was working fine, so the next day i tried to connect with the other latop and found out that the laptop cannot connect, i have 2 laptop , one is HP which is conntecing very well and the other is Acer which connects and show limited connections
when i connect the Acer laptop to my router. it connects but no internet services, when i change the security too NOne, it connects to the internet and when i change the Security to WPA/WPAS i get connected with no internet access, i had to disable every windows firewall and antivirus firewalls.. but stil to no avail,my wiresless card is Atheros 802.11b AR5007EG, i had to install a new windows vista but still get the same problem, what can i do please, any info i will be glad to learn from you guys..
thanks
If you are connected to the router with WPA , can you ping the router?
What's the output of:
ipconfig /all
in a windows command window
i still cannot connect to the router still.. but my other HP laptop can connect to the router and i can use the internet very well...
the laptop can only see the wireless network but cannot connect through WPA
so any idea on it
i try to connect it through this security.. WPA-PSK [TKIP] it cannot.. what can i do? it cannot even connect to the router..
but if i set the security to this settings..WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES].. it connects and shows limited..
so wat do you think can be done?
@Chrisnwa I had the same problem with an Acer Aspire One laptop and solved it this evening by downloading the latest driver file for the Wifi Card.
Go to Acers site ( http://www.acer.co.za/acer/service.do?LanguageISOCtxParam=en&miu10einu24... )
and download the driver for your wireless card and install and that would solve the problem
my laptop is acer aspire 5315.. i hope this will help it..
Search for your laptop's model at the site and download the appropriate driver for the wifi card.
Let me know if it solves it like it did for me.
i will do that tomorrow morning coz it is 10pm here but tomorrow morning i will do it and let you know ok..or i will try it now.. brb
hi
i just updated my wireless card and tried still i cannot connect.. any solutiuon?
Can you show us a screenshot of your routers wireless settings?
sure i can do that.. but i just changed it to N series bcoz my HP laptop is N network card so currently it is on
Wireless Settings
Wireless Network
Name (SSID): Nwa
Region: --- Europe
Channel: Auto
Mode: Upto 145 MbpsUp
Security Options:
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
Security Options (WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK)
Passphrase: (8-63 characters or 64 hex digits)
that is the settings i currently have on now
The Atheros 802.11b AR5007EG definitely doesn't support N. You should try g only and see if this fixes the acer problem.
The Atheros 802.11b AR5007EG definitely works with this router as I had someone before that asked why he cannot get WLAN N to work with this card, everything else worked fine.
well i have tried g and still it could not work with it.. the only way it can work is by none securities on the router settings... i brought the roiuter settings to the lowest with security but still it does not work..
but when i do not put security on it and open the network.. it works automatically... so i am suspecting the router becoz i have tried ressting the router.. it does not work.. and this netgear router does not have much features like DMZ and NAT facilities.. so this netgear router has limitation..
for me to be able to resett the router to factory settings,.. i tried it and it could not work the normall way so i just think the router is not a good wireless item for a networking specifications.. but my HP with N is working perfectly with it.. but still i cant get my acer to work with it.. with securities.. which is too bad...
You could switch firmware to dd-wrt or tomato, which gives you much greater functionality and most likely fix the wireless issue.
well i dont know how to do that and besides i read on forums here that when u switch to to dd-wrt u will likely get ur router spoiled.. by the way which one is the best to upgrade with .. if you have done that before you can tell me..
It is very easy:
1. Download:
http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/19042/DD-WRT-for-WNR3500L-v24-K2.6-...
2. Go to routers webpage select upgrade firmware, use the above firmware to flash a mini dd-wrt version
3. After the router rebooted login to the router again, now you should see dd-wrts web interface, it will ask for a new passwort. You can now setup your internet connection etc.
Finally to add all kinds of features to the wnr3500l get my dd-wrt mod:
http://www.myopenrouter.com/download/19806/DD-WRT-BETA-Kong-Mod-USB-FTP-...
and flash it through the dd-wrt web interface:
Administration->Firmware Upgrade
As I always test this procedure before I release a new FW, it should work without any preoblems, unless you have a power outage while flashing, but even then it can be debricked:-)
well i will like to find out if i can change it back to the normal way it is.. if i feel like changing it back... so where are you from.. would like to know you better.. thanks for the info and i will do that tomorrow....
thanks and keep in touch....
I have an Acer Inspire 5200 & I had to turn on the "radio" switch on the front of the laptop before it would connect to the internet. I spent lots of hours reconfiguring before I realized I had not turned the wifi switch on. Could this be your issue also?
well my friend.. it is not.. the netgear is not a good wireless router.. i bought a ddifferent router and it working fine.. so i dont recommend netgear.. but though it works for other people.. coz if it is my issue.. my other hp will not connect the internet wirelesssly.. so i guess it from netgear
What channel was the Netgear set to, if it was set to 13 it might be the case that the laptop can only use channels 1 to 11. Your other laptop might support all 13, could explain it.
i have even brought it down to channel 1 but still to no avail.. so am not surprised...
