Ditched DDWRT and went to tomato

Ok I have to admit that I am a DDWRT fan because of it's tons of features but have had stability issues with My Buffalo Router and speed issues with the WNR3500L and I just couldn't get OpenVpn to work on DDWRT.

I always wanted to try tomato because I have heard it was so stable and also heard OpenWrt was also as stable.  only problem is that the tomato builds here did not have VPN support and I didn't want to get in to the weeds with OpenWRT.  I did some searching and found an awesome build of Tomato with OpenVPN support and it works like a charm with my VPN service.

Sorry, I love DDWRT for all it's features but I have had nothing but problems with stability!  Tomato is so much easier to configure and with the mega build that I found it has everything I need to include USB support and OpenVPN support.

I posted an installation thread with a link to Tomato build.

I guess I should say cya DDWRT and mybe I'll come back when your firmware is as stable as OpenWrt and Tomato.

If I wanted to create a hot spot maybe I would go back to DDWRT but other than that Tomato has what I need and actually works!

If you had speed issues, then

If you had speed issues, then you probably didn't use my optimized dd-wrt mod, which is faster than tomato. I have not heard of any stability issues with my releases. In fact my WNR3500L has been running for month without any problem.

I have seen a few bug reports regarding openvpn with frequent disconnects but they always turn out to be setup problems, wrong mtu settings etc.

Anyways I still have to release another dd-wrt mod with openvpn that includes my enhancements

I had slowdown problems and

I had slowdown problems and when I have the router under heavy use the wireless disconnects for a few seconds constantly. While surfing the net this is ok but when you are playing games online you get disconnected. I had even worse problems with my bufallo router.

I have heard good things on this site about your mod. Once I found tomato was so much more solid I just switched. I am a geek but with my current job, I don't have time to tinker as miuch as I like. Tomato is just more stable and hassle free. if I had the time to tinker maybe I'll go back.

The wireless issue may have been a result from the higher tx power dd-wrt initially sets up. Lots of traffic then causes overheating especially if the ambient temperature is high. I always recommend to lower the value as much as possible.

What's ironic and funny is I

What's ironic and funny is I am in the other boat. I am having speed and WAN IP issues with Tomato on my 3500L and hoping to find better luck with the DD-WRT (been with Tomato for over 4 years >
